'08 TrailBlazer SS 1st Detail

This is the first (full) detail of my truck since I've owned it, which has been a year. This was a good chance for me to try out my favorite detailing ensemble on new material. Here are the particulars.



Cleaning:

Mother's California Gold Wash

Sonus Detailing Clay

PC with:

Sonus SFX 2(Swirl Remover), SFX 3 (finishing), Paintwork Cleanser

Sonus SFX Polishing Pads (3" and 6") and backing plates

Sonus Acrylic Spritz

Acrylic Glanz

Zymol Vintage

For me, taping is one of the most important (pain in the butt but...) steps..

In all I'd say that the polishes and wax seem to work together as well as it has for me in the past. One of the challenges that I faced this time was getting a feel of how the wax translated an actively metallic surface into a finished result. Also, as it has been in the past, the newly applied wax is just getting started, as Vintage and the rest of the Zymols seem to get better in texture with a little age.

Lol........I know. I'll tone down the tape routine next time. I'm getting quite a few overkill signals. I hate the clean-up though from dust and mist on windows (ever notice how window cleaner is hard to find when you need it????) I thought I was good this time.......I usually cover my wheels, but I couldn't this time due to their size!

i've always said if i ever had a chevrolet vehicle it's a must that it's an SS...I can't wait until i can have a garage to work in to work on my cars...
 
Thanks again for the comments. I didn't want to remove anything per se that I didn't have to, being that I was concerned about having things go wrong with assembly/disassembly etc. Add to it, the detail is a long and tedious process; Anything in terms of complications from the car would just have made things longer or worse IMO. I see that a few people go as far as removing headlight/tailight lenses. I won't ever go there, so people will just have to accept my tape fetish and all............lol!!!!!!
 
great job, but like you said, that tape and covering everything up as overkill, and there cheaper (and less time consuming) ways of doing it. all you need to tape up is the stuff that can potentially be stained from the polish (rubber, vinyl, etc). no need in covering the windows and all that. once you get dont polishing, pull the tape off, and get the car a quick rinse to get all the splatter off the car.



saves a ton of tape, and a ton of time!
 
Great detail. How do you like the trailblazer? The only think I would change on them is a dual ram air hood and better exhaust. However, that is a sweet ride that will surprise some people :p.
 
Thanks again for noticing. I'll come up with some alternatives next time for the tape/windows. I might try qd'ing the windows before the next detail.......that might make the dust/splatter less likely to stick.



I've liked the TBs for awhile; When the 'SS series came out in '06 it seemed like a sweet deal. I didn't consider it seriously as a personal vehicle until I got the urge last year. The GREAT incentives from GM on their gas guzzling vehicles was a big push to pick up the TB. I would've loved a dual set up and maybe one or two things different, but for the most part the truck has been up to standard.
