07 Porsche GT3 Restorative detail

Completed today(11-27-2010) this car was one of my more challenging vehicles I have done recently. The paint issues were many(re-spray on the whole drivers side of the car) with sand scratches, deep marring and everywhere except the re-sprayed areas paint thiness averaging in the 100 micron measurement.

Here is the beginning.

Sand scratches.

After initial pass with M105 and wool on the rotary.

GillespieHeller11-22-10034.jpg

Nice scuff on the rear bumper.

The rear decklid was re-sprayed as well, in addition to the deep marring the body shop had put the "GT3" badge on crooked......that alone made me remove it and order a new one from the dealer.

First of the 50/50 pics.

11-19-10Carpics045.jpg

Deep RIDS & marring.............lovin it.

11-19-10Carpics029.jpg

After the initial cleaning there was still quite a bit of tar and rubber on the wheels which was evidence of "Track B**ch" status from the previous owner.

Missing my lift in the shop about this time.....

11-19-10Carpics043.jpg

Bird drop etch along with the marring.

11-19-10Carpics037.jpg

Marring and holograms.................my favorite (especially on hard paint suckness).

More pics of "The horror".

Rear fender clear film was not looking good...........

After the first step of compounding.

GillespieGT311-20-2010008.jpg

After medium polishing, the film looked pretty good after the jewelling step later in the job.

GillespieGT311-20-2010009.jpg

The previous owner must have been a "Nail salon owner" look at the marring.

Everything cleaned, now dressing applied and then polish all painted areas.

GillespieGT311-26-10022.jpg

Removed the wing and corrected the finish in this area.

GillespieGT311-26-10023.jpg

After medium polishing step.

GillespieGT311-26-10028.jpg

Underside of the wing had heavy peel(Imagine that!), so I sanded with Unigrit 1500/trizact 3000/Abralon mesh 4000.

The car has lot's of "Patina" still, but the new owner is going to also take it to the track where this car belongs.

Shes a real beauty, and the work completed compliments the vehicle perfectly. I see it all the time, but it still amazes me that body shops can do such poor jobs in the "attention to detail" category.
Great job bringing her back!

:notworthy::notworthy:

Ok Bob, now we see why you love that lift in your shop. Outstanding documentation and craftsmanship!

Bob,
Your attention to detail continues to blow me away. I am so obsessed with your work!! I would love to spend a week with you to really learn the trade. That was a top notch job.:drool5::Dancing Dot::notworthy::thumbup:
Keep the awesome work and write ups coming!!!

Excellent work sir. After reviewing Todd's thread on the black Ferrari and this thread, I believe I'm going to like it here. Off to review more threads of excellence.
