'07 Camry Hybrid - TRASHED Interior!!

OCDinPDX

Paint Ph.D
This 2007 Camry Hybrid (half dirt, half Camry) has had a rough three years. It was purchased new in July of 2006 by best friends' mother and his stepfather who has less-than-savory ideas of how a vehicle should be kept. In three years, this poor Camry has (by the looks of things) probably been vacuumed twice and NEVER been properly detailed until today when he and I broke out both of our Griot's Garage buffers, my new carpet extractor, his shop vac and gave this unloved Camry some much-needed attention.

The interior was so bad I put those pictures first. Enjoy!

Exterior Process:

- Full vehicle wash with Griots Car Wash and MF wash pad.
- Pre-soak wheels with GG Wheel Cleaner
- GG clay on entire vehicle using GG Speed Shine as a lubricant.
- Machine Polish with GG Random Orbital using Stage 2 polish to minimze swirls and RIDS.
- Hand-applied 4-Star UPP and allowed to cure for 2 hours.
- GG Long-Lasting Tire Dressing.
- Pre-cleaned engine bay with Meg's APC 4:1 and dressed with Stoner's Trim Shine.

Interior Process:

- Remove carpeted mats and front seats. (Yes, we removed the front seats!)
- Vacuum out floors (this in itself was an odyssey).
- Pre-treat carpets, cloth seats, and carpeted mats with HydrOxi Pro and agitate with brush. Extract with Dirt Devil extractor.
- Re-treat floor mats with APC 4:1 and blast with pressure washer on medium attachment; re-extract mats. The driver's floor mat is simply ruined...you'll see.
- Re-install front seats.
- Use GG Interior Cleaner on dashboard, door sills, door panels, instrument binnacle, cup holders, and center arm rest.

Total Hours Spent: 10
Combined Man Hours: 20 (my friend helped; had I flown solo this would have been a 2-day job).

Nasty interior mirror!

Nasty instrument binnacle!

To hell with it; EVERYTHING on the inside of this Camry was NASTY.

IMG_6382.jpg

The driver's floor mat was a train wreck.
IMG_6384.jpg

The engine was, oddly enough, the cleanest part of the car.

Front seats came out of the car...you'll see why.

Here's why...

IMG_6392.jpg

We got five tanks full just like this!
IMG_6393.jpg

The outside actually wasn't too bad. The usual...swirls and RIDS.

Taillight before....

Yours truly hard at work.

And my friend...
IMG_6426.jpg

The exhaust tip was not as bad as it looks. It cleaned up nicely.

And you've been visually tortured enough....here are the AFTERS!!!

IMG_6395.jpg

IMG_6394.jpg

We did what we could with what we had....the driver's mat is simply destroyed.

And here we go....

In case you forgot...this is a Camry Hybrid.

IMG_6451.jpg

The best I could get the exhaust tip looking.
IMG_6430.jpg

The swirled up taillights cleaned up nicely!
IMG_6416.jpg

And the engine lookin' good!

Thanks for looking!

Nice job!

The reason it's such a mess is cuz it's a hybrid. It has something to do with the electronic/magnetic fields produced that attracts all that crap.

Again, great job.

It now needs a coat of wax. :)

Nice work on the car, I'm always amazed by those that remove the seats...I've never had to...and by what I am seeing with this car it would have been over kill IMO

How did you clean the mats and rugs? meaning what did you use for cleaner

Thanks for the kind words, everybody! :dcrules

First I used a HydrOxiPro/water mix with the extractor and eventually bumped it up to APC 4:1.

As for removing the seats, I normally don't but seeing the true state of this interior convinced me it was the best approach. Coffee spills everywhere, dripping down both sides of the console, under the seats...you get the picture.

Nice job!

That was a painful day maneuvering through my garage. But it does look great.

By the way that strange other guy in the photos is me. Yes I let my parents trash the car that badly because they hadn't previously wanted anything done to it. Also I am never letting them take it through an automatic car wash again, Rocker panels were dead.

only one coat ? ? ? ?

id put like 5 hahahahahha ifff he had the time LOL

Its looks AALLOOTT better but i think the inside could still use a little more help. I see alot of dirt in the center console . If you have compressed air that would help a bunch. Great turn around!

Yeah....that's next on my list. I have a friend who has one but I couldn't reach him.

Looks good! You really should try Purple Power on severe carpet stains, it works wonders. Was it really necessary to remove the seats? Just as a side note if you invest in a stronger extractor you will be able to get more of the stain out.

Nice work!
