Another detail using only a PC. I got my makita last week but still waiting on the 5" backing plate. This has probably been the hardest paint I've worked on. It was even harder than the E320 I did a while back.

Process

Wheels

APC+ diluted 4:1

Clay

Wash

ONR /w Lowes Grout Sponge

WW towel for drying

Polishing

Prima Swirl on Orange LC x 3

Prima Swirl on White LC x 1

Prima Amigo on White LC x 1

Interior

APC+ 10:1

Woolite 6:1

LSP

Prima Epic on Grey LC

Prima Hydro and the last touch

Equipment used

PC

Rigid 4550 Shop Vac

Bissell LGCM

Time: 13 hrs

I inspected the car while it was overcast. Bad Idea. Estimated 6-8 hrs but it was swirled pretty bad with buffer trails(supposedly never been polished) and water spots. Ended up taking twice as long. I'm thinking of doing a test spot first and then quoting the price after depending on how many passes are needed. Is that a good idea? I really need my 5" backing plate for my makita!!!

Before Shots. It had rained the night before so it had a dust layer. Figured I'd use ONR.

Thanks for Looking.

Sweet turn around. I see that the prima swirl is a really all around product. I too have found my self using it quite a bit lately since I found out its vesatility.

You say its the hardest paint youve worked on?? Know does this mean one of the worst jobs uve done on a black bmw or what do u mean by this statement?? Is your car Jet Black or Saphirre Metallic??

Jetblack Bmw paint is the SOFTEST Clear coat Imaginable!!! Thats why it swirls and gets fine scratches so easily!!

Ive had 3 differnt Jetblack bmws in the past 3 years and there worst to take care of compared to any other color! I even got a Black saphirre metalic E90 and it was NIght and day compared to the Jet black. The metallic was much harder of a clear coat! Im currently in a Jetblack E92 and am just appalled at how easily it scratches and swirls..

Looks great!

How are you liking the prima products??

While I haven't tried M105, 106ff, SIP.....there wasn't anything yet that Prima Swirl couldn't handle.

Hardest paint meaning it took alot more passes to remove same amount of defects than other paints. Not sure if it is jetblack or saphirre metalic...how can u tell? If there is flake in the paint???

thanks for all the compliments guys. Learned alot from this forum. Just got my backing plate today finally. Hopefully my next write up will be with my makita, of course after practicing on my roommate's beater. :chuckle:

Hmm well thats odd cuase everyone else here thats detailed a Jetblack e90 and IME its some of the softest CC around,, it may just be your equipment. Once u step up to the rotary and get some 106ff youll see that paint clear up in no time at all!

Yes there is a flake in the Black metallic its not a solid black in the light!

On the other hand how u liking your car?? u should check out e90post.com for lots of info on our cars and lots of ideas to make it look and drive its best!!

Here is a thread about how hard jet black is: http://www.autopia.org/forum/click-brag/106524-black-bmw-545i-frustrating-correct.html

From what i've read, it really varies from car to car even in the same exact color and year.

Its not my car. It was a clients car. I drive the "thinking man's bmw"

I agree, ALL recent 06+ Jet Black BMWs I have done correct easy, but are butter soft.

Anyways, the car looks very nice in the afters. :)

Great Job on the Beamer. I did one like that today. Dark Blue. Sorry, stopped to get batteries for the camera and got water instead. When I got to the car I realized I did not have them. I used Menzerna SIP and Nano 106ff, and the Flex with orange and white pads respectively.

The Prima products you used seemed to work real good. Car looks Awesome!

How does Prima stack up next to Menzerna? I would like to try these. Where can they be purchased?

Thanks
