'07 Aston Martin V8 Vantage detail

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hey all!!!

Today was a good day.

Thanks to a very kind referral from a good client of mine I got to spend the entire day at Ferrari of Atlanta ( www.ferrariofatlanta.com ) playing with a brand new '07 Aston Martin V8 Vantage!!! Not only did I get to work on this fine ride but I also got a walk through of the dealership and saw the vaunted "basement". The "basement" is home to a pristine F40, an Enzo and about 20 more Ferrari's, Maserati's and Aston's. I was as giddy as a school boy on Christmas morning.

On to the car...

This '07 Aston is brand new with just 15 miles on the odo and was being delivered to its new owner tomorrow. The paint, simply put, was trashed. Apparently there has been a problem with Aston's quality control as several of the recently delivered cars are coming through like this one. There were unbuffed wetsanding marks, deep rotary hologramming from stem to stern and sling in every crevice of the car. Since the cars are shipped in sealed containers from England and aren't touched at the port nor at the dealership the guys at Ferrari of ATL told me it is 100% happening at the Aston factory. Go figure. :buffing: Maybe some of our Brit Autopians can go lend them a hand!!! ;)

Below is a description of products and process used.

Enjoy,

Mike

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo.

Polish with Optimum Compound using a LC orange pad and my PC set a 5-6. The step was repeated x's 2 over the entire car. One or two spots needed this step done x's 3.

Polish with Optimum Polish using a LC white pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Glaze with ClearKote's RMG using a Meg's 9006 pad and my PC set at 5.

Seal with Poorboy's Natty's Paste Wax (blue) by hand with a foam pad.

Whoaa!! With your superb detailing, I have to say that this design is probably one of my favorite. It's so beautiful and elegant. So PERFECT!!!

I've done 3 Vantages, 4 DB9's, 2 Vanquishes and was lucky enough to do the Rapide Concept Car. I've found the DB9's to have the worst prep work. The Vantages are better and the Vanquishes are fine (different factory). All of the DB9's have incredible swirls and even some burns from the factory. The vents on the hood are all caked with compound, as well as the clear protective film on the bumpers and quarters. The earlier ones are worst.

I would recommend using tape around the upper ridge of the hoods by the windshields and even over the front fender lips. Paint thickness is all over the map and I've seen some extrememly thin edges.

Nice job on that Black Vantage.

I've know that paint prep quality has been an issue at the dealer discussions with Aston and I've heard that the DB9 plant is going robotic for primer. Hopefully that will expand to paint.

BEAUTIFUL! The new Jag's look just like them, good for the jags bad for the Aston's! Even though both are owned by Ford.

Ahhhh.... that car right there is easily described as a slice of heaven. Truely one of the best looking cars on the road.

I envy you for being able to play with that beautifull car. Excellent work!

SWEEEET RIDE, and SWEET JOB BRO i know it gets real grueling when you have to repeat steps but it obviously pays off.

Mike, Excellent work as always!

Now you can add "FOA approved" to your credentials. :2thumbs:

I think we know someone in Atlanta who does nice work on race trailers, maybe he can do that one. :think2

ooh that car is hella clean. i got that as my screen saver. very nice work. i bet you'll get more business from them again.
