1 Clean WS6
Detailing Rottweiler
Hey all!!
One of my dream cars for sure...427 cubic inches and 3100 pounds. :getdown This particular Z has some more beans than normal under its carbon fiber hood thanks to my friends and clients at Vengeance Racing. Vengeance is the crew that recently put a heads/cam/intake package on my WS6 and are a great bunch of guys who absolutely know there stuff when it comes to LSx based motors. This Z has a camshaft, headers, tune and made a whopping 545hp and 500lbs to the rear wheels. :bow Ron, one of the shops business partners, said he had been around plenty of 500+ rwhp rides but this one scared him!! Sweeeeet.
The Z showed a little over 6K on the odo and was in average condition. It had obviously been improperly hand washed/dried as it showed moderate marring and the entire front 1/3 of the car (hood, fenders, fascia) was covered in hard water spots. The tires had been dressed with some type of silicone and it had slung big globs of yuckness down the entire length of the car and stained some of the vinyl trim.
I recently purchased some Optimum products and thought that this car would be a perfect acid test for them. I first started with the Optimum Compound and a LC orange pad. The OC made short work of the water spots and did a fantastic job of removing the marring. I would say that it is about equal (perhaps a tiny bit less) in cut to Menzerna IP but is slightly easier to work with. It seemed to stay wet longer and dust less than IP. I followed the OC with the Optimum Polish and a LC white pad. My bottle of OP has a sticker on it that says "New Formula" but having never tried the "Old Formula" I can not compare the two. I can compare it to Menzerna FPII and would say OP has slightly more cut but is just as easy to work with. It stays wet for days and had very little in the way of dusting. I could see me using it as a stand alone for light polishing jobs as it finishes down to a beautiful gloss. Next up was Optimum Car Wax. This stuff is uber easy to use and if it lasts like the bottle claims this is a "winner" of a product IMHO. I had the entire car sealed in a little less the 10 minutes!! The overspray on glass just wipes away and as long as you don't let it dry on the paint surface it is a simple as wipe on...wipe off. It leaves a deep, wet shine with a nice slickness.
Please excuse the dust in the pics as there is a saw mill directly across the street which filled the air with stuff. I also apologize for the poor lighting as the sun had just set behind a line of trees.
Enjoy,
Mike
The detail:
Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo
Polish with Optimum Compound using a LC orange pad and my PC set at 5-6. I repeated this step twice over the entire car.
Polish with Optimum Polish (New Formula) using a LC white pad and my PC set at 5-6.
Seal with Optimum Car Wax. I also did this step twice to make sure of complete coverage and just because it was so darn easy!
