1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hey all!!

One of my dream cars for sure...427 cubic inches and 3100 pounds. :getdown This particular Z has some more beans than normal under its carbon fiber hood thanks to my friends and clients at Vengeance Racing. Vengeance is the crew that recently put a heads/cam/intake package on my WS6 and are a great bunch of guys who absolutely know there stuff when it comes to LSx based motors. This Z has a camshaft, headers, tune and made a whopping 545hp and 500lbs to the rear wheels. :bow Ron, one of the shops business partners, said he had been around plenty of 500+ rwhp rides but this one scared him!! Sweeeeet.

The Z showed a little over 6K on the odo and was in average condition. It had obviously been improperly hand washed/dried as it showed moderate marring and the entire front 1/3 of the car (hood, fenders, fascia) was covered in hard water spots. The tires had been dressed with some type of silicone and it had slung big globs of yuckness down the entire length of the car and stained some of the vinyl trim.

I recently purchased some Optimum products and thought that this car would be a perfect acid test for them. I first started with the Optimum Compound and a LC orange pad. The OC made short work of the water spots and did a fantastic job of removing the marring. I would say that it is about equal (perhaps a tiny bit less) in cut to Menzerna IP but is slightly easier to work with. It seemed to stay wet longer and dust less than IP. I followed the OC with the Optimum Polish and a LC white pad. My bottle of OP has a sticker on it that says "New Formula" but having never tried the "Old Formula" I can not compare the two. I can compare it to Menzerna FPII and would say OP has slightly more cut but is just as easy to work with. It stays wet for days and had very little in the way of dusting. I could see me using it as a stand alone for light polishing jobs as it finishes down to a beautiful gloss. Next up was Optimum Car Wax. This stuff is uber easy to use and if it lasts like the bottle claims this is a "winner" of a product IMHO. I had the entire car sealed in a little less the 10 minutes!! The overspray on glass just wipes away and as long as you don't let it dry on the paint surface it is a simple as wipe on...wipe off. It leaves a deep, wet shine with a nice slickness.

Please excuse the dust in the pics as there is a saw mill directly across the street which filled the air with stuff. I also apologize for the poor lighting as the sun had just set behind a line of trees.

Enjoy,

Mike

The detail:

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Polish with Optimum Compound using a LC orange pad and my PC set at 5-6. I repeated this step twice over the entire car.

Polish with Optimum Polish (New Formula) using a LC white pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Optimum Car Wax. I also did this step twice to make sure of complete coverage and just because it was so darn easy!

You can see Ron's DickHarrell edition Camaro in the reflection. His car is featured in this month's issue of GM High-Tech magazine.

I would say about 95% mar free.

And you didnt detail the engine bay? I would have just so I could drool on it! Nice job on a beautiful car!

Awesome car, awesome detail! :)

Like Greg, I know how tough Corvette paint can be to work with. :nervous2:

Did you get a ride? I've been in a stock one and the acceleration is brutal, can't imagine how the one you detailed would be but I bet it would be a wild ride!

Gorgeous!!!

That "95%" comment seems to be of the norm with Corvettes :(. I had such a tough time recently, with a black C5 Z06.

THANK YOU all for the very kind words.

MITeggy17 No motor shots as it looks stone stock (aside from the headers). Here is a motor shot of another black C6 Z06 that I detailed though...

GMZ No I did not detail the engine, I very rarely do. The only way I will is if the client begs and pleads then signs a liability waiver. :)

Ah Vette clear!!! Indeed...it is bear but I like polishing them!! Call me a masochist...I don't know...but I love the cars. You just have to be able to look at the paint and know that you've made it look 100 times better than before you started even if it isn't flawless. Seeing the Vette's you all have detailed I can honestly say that they were PERFECT!! :2thumbs:

Scott no ride in the beast. The guys were getting ready to take it to a local show to promote their business...they were actually waiting on me. I'll be back though and I'll con a ride in one of their creations. ;) Heck...Lola is one of their creations.

That looks great Mike.

I *think* the difference in OP new and old is the size of the chunks in the polish. :nixweiss :chuckle:

I got the new nozzle for mine - it helped, but not too much.

:2thumbs: Excellent! :2thumbs: I would love to drive that car. I can imagine it is a bear to handle.

My Dad's Callaway looks stock as well excecpt for the engine cover and headers. I love these new generation Vette's They are put together so well compared to the previous gen. When you do engine upgrades on thise cars, do you have to lift the car off of the front subframe? Seems like a lot of work!!!!
