'06 Bentley Continental Flying Spur detail

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hi all!!

This is the third Bentley I have had the privilege to work on and these cars never cease to amaze me. They are without a doubt the M1 Abrams of exotics!! Built like an iron fist yet wrapped in a velvet glove. Heck...I think one of the doors weighs more than my wife's Civic. What I admire about the cars is that nothing feels delicate or fragile unlike some other exotics I've touched. They truly have that "everyday" quality about them. Add a twin turbo 552 horsepower W-12 to the mix and it just fills you with warm fuzzies!!! :2thumbs:

This particular "Big B" shows 11,300 on the odo and had never been polished since delivery. As such the flat as glass paint showed a moderate amount of marring. Below is a description of products and process used for this detail.

Enjoy,

Mike

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Polish with Poorboy's SSR 2.5 using a LC orange pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Polish with Poorboy's SSR 1 using a LC white pad and my PC set at 5-6.

Seal with Poorboy's Natty's Blue paste wax by hand with a foam pad.

Nice. I've done several B's and they all have super soft critical finishes. Glad everything worked out for you. Interesting color combo - black with blue interior. Are those the original floor mats?

Great work Mike. I have a Bentley Continental GT to do in black. Your post has me salivating to get my hands on it. :woot:

David..thanks for the info on the paint. I was curious how hard the clear was on Bentleys.

GREAT JOB! Is there THAT much difference btween that and the continental GT?

Paint wise or looks wise? Paint I don't know, havent had the privelage to work on either yet. Looks, yes, the Continental GT is a 2 door and it has wider hips this one is a 4 door and not as wide hips. A few other differences I think but those are the main ones I noticed.

Older, "true" Bentleys have a fascinating mechanical feeling (which is truthfully disturbing sometimes - loud clacks, etc.), which the real iron fist in a velvet glove. This car is the mechanical twin of the VW Phaeton with 26% directly interchangeable parts, but with different body and interior. The Spur has a visual advantage over the Continental GT as the longer whelbase and body successfully masks the huge and generic front wheel drive overhang (FWD-based architecture which determines the front wheel position). Then you pull two Golf VR6 engines from the shelf, join them at the crank, add the turbos and your "Bentley" engine is ready.

If you sit these cars long enough (or especially blindfolded), you'll notice that lots of things are disturbingly close to the Phaeton. Same column stalks, same paddles, same steering wheel and even the armrests are in the same weird, asymmetric position - those on the middle console are perfect in lateral distance but set in too low (angle adjustment only), while the ones in the door are farther out but in great height - absolutely the same as in the Phaeton.

The fact that it moves energetically (which 560 bhp car does not?) doesn't change this feeling. This is a great and very economic marketing success for VW, but not a true Bentley. It is a better car overall than any Bentleys of yesteryear, but also more soulless.

Their paints are usually GREAT though.

Kind of ironic using POORBOY'S products on a Bentley eh :D

Looks great nonetheless. Natty's Blue is a great wax.
