06 350Z ordered - need product help please

First post here finally :up



Been reading for a good while now and I'm trying to get together a product list for my 06 350Z Touring that is currently being built (magnetic black with burnt orange leather seats)! I already own a PC7336 but do not have quality pads yet. I'd like comments/suggestions on my product list and sequence please. I've read a lot of positive remarks about Vroom (Target's brand) MF Towels/Sheepskin Mitts so I think I'll see how they do. I'll also be purchasing the Sonus DAS Pad Kit although I only plan to use the blue pad on my new car.



The detailing process will be (in order):



Wash: Griot's Car Wash with Vroom Sheepskin Mitts

Dry: Water sheeting method, blot with 100% cotton towel, 1 swipe with Vroom MF Towel

Clay: Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Clay with Sonus Glyde Clay Lubricant

Cleaner: Klasse AIO by PC7336/Sonus DAS Blue Foam Pad

Glaze: RMG by PC7336/Sonus DAS Blue Foam Pad

Wax: Souveran paste by hand with Sonus Der Wunder MF Applicator, buffed with Vroom MF Towel

QD: FK1 #425 with Vroom MF Towel

Wheel Protection: Klasse AIO

Exterior Trim: PB Trim Restorer

Interior: Clean with damp Vroom MF Towel then apply 303 Aerospace Protectant

Leather: Zaino Z-9 and Z-10



For maintenance I would wash/dry and then QD with FK1 #425



Do I have anything backwards, redundant steps, or possibly entire steps left out? Feel free to comment!!



I have a couple of specific questions as well:

1. Is AIO needed since I'll be claying the new paint after I wash it?

2. Will there be any coloring/fading issues with using Z-9/Z-10 on burnt orange leather seats? For convenience I've provided a pic of what the seats will look like:

Product choice looks good. Except I can't comment on the sonus pads (never use them and don't know what colors coordinate with what level of cut). However the order I would do it would be:



Wash(Don't need to dry),

Clay (Leave some of the soapy water on the car to help lube the clay)

Wash (A quick wash to get off the clay reside)

Dry



AIO and RMG seems a bit redundent, and since you are topping it with Souveran. I would just RMG. I don't think z9/z10 will discolor the leather. Btw, those seats look great!
 
I like Vroom MF and sheepskin products.

I wouldn't use the RMG when ur using the AIO. Glaze will take off the AIO. That's enough. The Souveran ur using is the carnuba wax right? if so then use the AIO. AIO will allow the carnuba to stick better so it will last longer, shinner and the aio will protect the car when and if the carnuba melts and dirt starts sticking. That's why use Sonus's great ultra fine detailing clay before u reapply the wax after so long so u can get all the contamination off the car.

U really need to clean and protect this car not polish. I would just stick to clay, AIO, SG, and Wax. That's what I do. Oh, I also love Sonus Paint Cleaner I use that after claying.

Beautiful seats. I'm looking at getting one next year. Please post a before and after pics bud.
 
I'd go either RMG or AIO. RMG will give you a bit deeper finish, AIO a bit more durable finish.



As long as you keep the leather clean and dressed regularly, it should last the life of the car and still look new.
 
Thanks for the compliments and replies! I think I'll choose the durability route and go with Klasse AIO instead of the RMG.



Hmm....should an application of KSG by hand go on between the AIO and Souveran?

I am on the other side. I like the RMG over AIO. The RMG produces a deep unreal appearance to your car. JMHO

If you are thinking Klasse twins, you'd likely be even happier with the Werkstatt twins, Prime and Acrylic Jett. Basically a nano-updated version of Klasse. Easier to use, deeper and wetter shine.
 
RMG > AIO (i.e. looks > durability for me). Believe me, once you get that car and learn the methods of proper detailing, you won't be able to keep your hands off of it, therefore looks will be more important to you than durability (IMO anyways). I also have a black Nissan and I prefer RMG and Natty's blue over anything I've tried so far. Make no mistake, RMG and a good Nuba' wax w/ proper qd maintenance will give you pretty good durability.

Sorry - this is probably not meant for this forum - but I picked up the exact same car - Black with orange leather seat touring edition 2 weeks ago !!.



I am getting the exterior detailed - I think the dealer put it through a car wash or something - there are a whole bunch of swirl marks. I pointed it out and he offered to wash it again !!. NO THANKS.



I have aroung 750 miles on it so far. I got the 3M clear Bra installed the second day I got it. Once I get it detailed in a couple of weeks - I should be all set.

Nice, congrats on the car!! Everyone that hears "burnt orange leather" kinda gives me a "eww, iffy" look but wait until they see the seats for themselves :xyxthumbs IMO black/burnt orange is an unbeatable combo for the Z. Feel free to post some pics here if you'd like!!!



Back on the subject of detailing, I've been roaming around the forums more and I've stumbled upon various threads suggesting a detailing process such as:



Wash

Clay

Klasse AIO

RMG

PB EX w/ carnauba

(insert fav. wax here, mine will be Souveran since I want to try it)



I've read that both RMG and AIO are not needed together and also that RMG looks awesome over AIO. I think that I will initially try AIO + RMG because I keep reading that RMG makes the metallic flake pop, which is DEFINITELY what I want. So now the only decision I have to make is whether to add Poorboy's EX in between RMG and Souveran....perhaps the added carnauba from the EX is beneficial aesthetically and/or durability is increased because it's a sealant? I gotta admit, it's sounding like a good idea to me.

To be honest I hadn't researched those options yet, but now that I've read up on them they sound very appealing.....thank you for the recommendation! I think the exact products for me would be:



Prime: Carnauba

Acrylic Jett: Trigger



I did see a few pics as well of vehicles with JUST Prime + Acrylic Jett applied and the results were impressive.



I did tell the Nissan dealership NOT to touch the car when it comes in. No wash, no detail. If it comes nasty off the delivery truck, then I want to drive it home just like that. I also plan to get a Clearbra installed for the front bumper/part of hood because Nissan paint seems to be so soft/susceptible to rock chips.

You have a nice array of products. You can't beat Pinnacle Souveran on a black Z. I just polished mine out this past weekend with Menzerna PO85RD. I came out very very nice. Friday I plan to apply some RMG and a coat of Natty's Blue.



Car should be looking good for our Z club event on Saturday. :xyxthumbs
 
Alright, I think I'm nearing the final version of my supplies list....it has changed a bit and I've decided to include the Werkstatt twins into the mix. Here's the list in order of use:



Wash: Griot's Car Wash

Clay: Sonus SFX Ultra-Fine Clay

AIO: Prime - Carnauba

Sealant: Acrylic Jett

Wax: Souveran

QD: FK1 425



The car shouldn't need polishing at all since the dealer won't be washing/detailing/swirling the new paint :bounce
 
Blimey - I've ordered the same car as well - although in Europe, the 2006 350Z has slightly different names for the colours (although they are the same codes). G41 is known as Ebisu Black (named after the Ebisu race circuit aparently). The optional orange leather seats are known as 'Alezan'.



Have yet to see the above combination in the flesh, but have seen some great pictures online.

Plan to use my current inventory of Poorboys polishes, sealants and blue Nattys on arrival with help from my trusty PC - should look good :)
