05 NSX Show Car Quality Detail.....24 Hours

Okay, I'll try my best to keep this write up shorter, or at least post 50 pics and then wait till the next page opens to get another 50-60 pics posted....

First off, please don't ask how much I charged. Thanks.:nana:

The client called and asked for a complete show car quality detail even though it's not going into a show, just back into his garage, but he wants this done once a year basically.

The NSX is an 05 and the paint is extremely soft, softer then any other paint I've detailed before. I spent 16 hours alone on the paint just trying to get a combo mild enough to not leave holograms.

Anyways onto the pics, I'll start off with the inside and engine bays and such and try "quickly" to exlplain my processes.

First off, obviously I washed and clayed the car. Usual two buckets yadayada.....

Then for the interior I spent about 2 hours total, thoroughly dusting and vacuuming, and then a 303 wipe down of all panels and leather which was everywhere. Next I cleaned and treated the full leather wrapped interior with Zaino Z9 and Z10. It looked perfect afterwards.

Now onto the interior

Next, I started on the engine bays....yes bay's', the engine is rear mounted but the radiator and such is in the front....

So I took out the spare tires, cleaned it and waxed it with ZAIO then gave everything a gentle shampooing in the front and over the engine in the rear. Then I wiped it down with 303 10:1 ratio and after everything was clean enough I hand polished the both front hood and trunk hood with Zaino Fusion (ZPC) and then went over the same area with ZAIO for a beautiful glossy and extremely slick shine.

Here's the engine bays and hood liners.

Spare tire removed and sticker adhesive cleaned off with 3M Adhesive Remover, then polished and sealed with ZAIO.

This is the cover that hold the roof panel when removed. It sheds horribly and covers everything in it's little wiskers.

DSC05391.jpg

It's hard to tell from this pic but the underlining of the trunk got the same ZPC and ZAIO as the under part of the front hood, I forgot to takes after pics of it though...:nixweiss

DSC05360.jpg

Basically every open area, door jams, trunk and hood painted jams and engine bay jams and all of it got hand polished two times with ZPC and ZAIO, I can't even describe to you the slickness it all had when complete, it actually felt soft physically like silk.

Start posting up while I upload the pics so by time I'm half way finished we'll have a second page to start so PC's don't freeze up.:xyxthumbs

Holy crap, I never realized those things had such a big trunk. I'm trying to remember if my friend's X1/9 even had a trunk, not that any of you even know what an X1/9 is. (Except for Bence ;) )

:wow: the car that always i wanted to have and i hope to manage to buy it one day (dreams dreams dreams). Some more pictures of the car please please please...You have to be very lucky to detail such a car...lucky you..

So I think I basically covered the interior and all the bays....

Next up will get started on the paint. It was a long process totaling at least 16 hours. The paint was sooooo soft with a simple light combo like an LC white pad (not even a cutting pad) and Menzerna IP (MIP) at 1300 was leaving horrible holograms as if I'd compounded it with a heavy cut wool pad or something. After that I hit it with a black polishing pad and some Menz Final Polish II at 1200rpms which was still leaving holograms, so after playing around quite a bit and even ZAIO leaving holograms with a black pad, I ended up using the old PC with a black pad and FPII at 5000opm's. All work was double checked with 50/50 wipe down of 91% alcohol and at 1:1 ratio with water.

My basic process ended up being.

Rotary LC white pad with MIP at 1300 rpms 50/50 wipe down

Rotary LC black pad with FPII at 1200 rpms 50/50 wipe down

PC LC black pad with FPII at 5000 opms 50/50 wipe down

Here's some pics of the enemy staring me down...

You've all seen swirls so I won't show tons of pics with them...

Now onto the process.

Me polishing with rotary, white pad and MIP at 1300, btw, it's not wise to breath that stuff in for lengthy periods of time.

DSC05193.jpg

after, you can still see significant holograms

After, still some liht holograms in this super soft clear

DSC05219.jpg

Me polishing with PC, LC black pad and FPII again to make it perfect. Again I did a 50/50 wipe of each step to ensure no filling was decieving me.

DSC05222.jpg

AFters. A perfect finish.

DSC05220.jpg

Same shot, up close

DSC05221.jpg

Even the massive tail light got cleaned up and deswirled. I did half by hand with ZPC two times, then half with the rotary and PC with FPII (which I don't have pics of)

Here's before

DSC05207.jpg

Here's after hand polishing with ZPC, it wasn't 100% but after I did the final polishing with the rotary and PC with FPII it was perfect, I just didn't take pics of it.

DSC05209.jpg

Also to note, I would like to thank Todd of Belle Machinna for advising me on how to go about polishing the clear bras.

I ended up polishing the clear bras with a rotary and black pad with FPII at 1400 rpms and it turned out quite nicely.

before swirls in clear bras

DSC05211.jpg

after polishing. It's about 75% better, I took it easy since I did not want to jeapordise the integrity of the bras.

DSC05213.jpg

Here's a 50/50 shot of the bras on the nose and hood.

DSC05291.jpg

More coming up....

Now to finish up the whole car and inspect it.

Apon inspection I notice how perfect the clear was, there was absolutely little to no orange peel in this paint. I'd say it was 95% orange peel free.:bounce

I took a couple pics to show the lack of OP in this paint, I was very impressed.

Can you find the OP?

DSC05181.jpg

How about now? any OP? this is the trunk.

Yes, this is a reflection

DSC05182.jpg

No orange peel here, this is the hood.

DSC05198.jpg

DSC05205.jpg

Now that I think I'm finished polishing, time to take the car into the sun for the truth.....

Let's see what we see??? I found a trace or two, but I assure you it was from the brand new clean MF towels. This clear was sooo soft, even my new MF's were risking a scratch or two here or there. Remember this is only an inspection to go back and touch up anything I find before sealing.

Looks good....

Now onto the final step. 4 coats of Zaino Z5 per clients request.

I hate to do this, but out of respect for you guys and your PC's, I'm going to wait till tomorrow to finish up this write up. So as soon as this thing gets to page #2 I will continue with the final pics of sealing and glamour shots.

There's just so much to these show car prep's that I just don't have the time to post it all up in great detail.

Ohh, yess!!! :D

A friend moved to Spain, but the little red devil sits in the garage here... He is seriously considering an Integrale engine, as one X1/9 runs at the local drag championship and pulls easy 11.8s - despite of being a daily driver with full interior.

wow.... amazing josh! never seen an NSX look as good as this 1! Amazing reflections shots! Absolutely amazing!

Cant wait to see it when its done. SHould i just comment like 20 times to get to the 2nd page? haha

Excellent job on the NSX. It's one of a kind because it's rare. It's kinda funky how the clear bra was installed on the fenders btw.

Nice work. I guess a person should not throw away the ol' orbital just yet, huh? :) I can't imagine working on that motor, though. Very tight quarters.

Alright, as promised more pics and more process....

Okay, now that the machine polishing was complete, the 50/50 wipe down was complete and no swirls were coming back, time to hand polish smaller parts and per request I applied 3 coats of Zaino Z5 on Fri. and another coat of Z5 Sat morning before the owner picked up the car. The owner wanted 10 coats of Zaino, but I told him 5 would be plenty so we settled on 6 total, but I ran out of time and only got 4 coats on.:chuckle:

The license plate was removed to hand polish the area with ZPC, ZAIO and Z5.

DSC05335.jpg

Same with the underside of the front and rear bumpers. All the nooks and cranies were hand polished with ZPC then sealed with ZAIO and Z5.

DSC05336.jpg

DSC05338.jpg

No the tips had not yet been cleaned, but in the final pics you'll see how bright they are. I used 0000Steel wool on them.

More hand polishing.

DSC05337.jpg

Polishing inbetween the cracks by hand.

DSC05339.jpg

The door jams also got hand polished with ZPC and ZAIO.

DSC05342.jpg

DSC05341.jpg

This is what my garage looked like for a week, not a bad look for my home......:chuckle:

DSC05344.jpg

Okay, now that's all the hand polishing is complete and all the machine polishing is complete, it's been 50/50 wiped down plenty of times, inspected in the sun multiple times, all documentation has been recorded, I've got the 4 coats of Zaino Z5 on her, it's time for the owner to pick it up. Here's about an hour before delivery to the owner.

She is looking very good.....I was sad to see her go, I had really grown attached to this car.:sadwavey:

DSC05362.jpg

DSC05360.jpg

Everything's opened to ensure I didn't miss anything and that all powder is out of the cracks.

Oh, I forgot to say about the part where I went over the whole car with a couple dozen Qtips getting all the white stuff out of cracks and such....
