'05 Nissan 350Z Roadster detail (and a little drama too!!)

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hello all!!

First...the car.

This '05 belongs to a weekly regular of mine. She purchased it brand new in February and I have been washing it once a week since then. I told the owner to hold off on any big detail sessions until the pollen season was close to done. With just about 4K on the odo...today was that day. :D I LOVE these new Z's and G35's. If ever there was a Japanese import that could make me part with my WS6 it is the Z and the G!! The design and overall layout of the car is just plain sexy to me. Nissan definitely hit a home run with these machines. If Nissan puts some type of forced induction (either a turbo or a blower) on them from the factory...I'm going to have to do some soul searching!!

The drama...

Last Friday it rained and I was unable to make our weekly appointment. That Saturday, since she was going out of town on vacation for a few days and wanted a clean Z for her trip the owner took her car to one of those "$20 hand wash" places that litter the landscape here in Georgia. For her $20 she got this...

She called me up this Monday pratically in tears. The owner of the wash told her that "that is just a risk you run with hand washes" and offered to fix it for her. She said there was no way they would touch her car again and that she would have her detailer invoice him. ;)

Here is the result after:

Meg's ScratchX by hand with a terry applicator

Menzerna IP using a Meg's 8006 pad and my PC set at 6.

Menzerna FP using a Meg's 8006 pad and my PC set at 5.

The rest of the car was in excellent shape with very little if any swirling. They scratch the beejeezus out of one part but don't mar the rest of the car...go figure. :nixweiss

The detail:

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Clay with Mother's clay bar using Meg's #34 as a lube.

Polish/Glaze with ClearKote's VM using a Meg's 8006 pad and my PC set at 5.

Seal with Meg's #20 using a Meg's 8006 pad and my PC set at 4.

Enjoy,

Mike

Its ashame how you just can't find enough quality washes, let alone quality work.

Its a sweet car and detail!

very nice, i dont know if i could replace my fbody with a z (well plus i know alot of @$$holes that have Z's), but maybe the G, thoes are nice. but neither are near as fast (as your ws6) ever run your car at the track? il guess a low to mid 12 sec car with the mods on your page

NIce job fixing the Z. That's why I'm the only one who touches my Z. Like you said, the Z is great.

:bow Great Mike. I haven't seen that much flake since I looked at my car. ;)

Even our upscale Sky Wash in Alpharetta is swirl city. A good friend is on their unlimited $70 a month plan and he's got swirls everywhere. All of these places wouldn't know microfiber if it jumped up and bit them on the you know what. Everyone use the Scratchamatic brand cotton terry towel.

THANK YOU all for the kind words!! :up

guapsnaman I use VM on everything (light and dark paints)...its my guilty pleasure. I use it as a glaze after polishing but also use it (as in this case) for light marring removal. IMHO feel VM is about as aggressive as Meg's #9. #20, however, I do usually only use on light colors.

Pat...your Z's ROCK!!! :bow

Zane she said from now on I will be the only one to touch her car. "Better dirty than scratched" were her exact words!

2000firebird 12.4@114 with my less than stellar granny shifting.

Jason my best guess is a contaminated wash mitt or drying towel. Something came into contact with the ground, picked up some gravel or something and then was placed back on the paint. What kills me is the rest of the car was fine...it was just that one isolated area.

Lee I know what you mean. Over here in East Cobb it is Coronet's...a huge wash, detail and oil change center. I have had to "fix" more than one of their "details".

Mike, that is some excellent work, those scratches would have had me in tears too, and armed only with a PC I fear I would never have got them out. However, you prove that given the right technique and application paint correction is possible with a PC. Superb ! :bow

Sweet job

Nice fix too :xyxthumbs

With the #20, do you feel its cleaners remove the effects / look of the VM? From reading about #21, it sounds like a new choice to try out with your VM.

Thanks Paul! I think the owner of the Z was even more upset because of the poor way the owner of the wash treated her. He saw a woman and a hot car then just fed her a load of malarkey to try and cover up for his obvious fault.

Seth I do not think the cleaners in #20 effect the VM to any considerable degree. IMHO the "cleaning" ability of #20 is not much at all....#21 is even less so. VM/#20 is one of my favorite combo's for silver as it adds wetness and reflectivity to that color.

You got it made Mike, every detail I see you do is an awesome car. I really like the Z and Gs too, they really seem hard to beat for performance/value. I also got to test one last year at SEMA and damn was it nice

Sweet job on this detail and nice scratch removal. Would you mind describing the surface after scratch x? I'm just wondering why you used IP/FP afterwards, did scratch x mar the paint up that bad?
