'05 Maserati GranSport detail

1 Clean WS6

Detailing Rottweiler
Hello all!!

Today was a good day.

I arrvied this morning at a monthly regular's home to detail his '02 Maserati Cambiocorsa coupe. I last posted about it here...

http://autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=49388

When I pulled up to his house I saw that he had a cover over the car in his garage. I assumed he had purchased the cover to help keep the dust off in between detail sessions. We talked a bit and he then asked me to help take the cover off...I obliged. He said the look on my face was priceless as we pulled the cover off...and I have no reason to doubt him! :faint: My first reaction after seeing silver paint instead of black paint was that he had gotten himself a new '05 coupe...but it got better!! Not only had he gotten a new '05 but it was a GranSport!!!!!!!! One of approximately 100-120 being imported into the US! The GranSport's are a Maserati coupe with an emphasis on performance over the luxury of the standard coupes. They have 400hp engines with a specific "dual mode" exhaust instead of the 385hp for the standard car, 19" rims in place of 18's on the standard cars, specific "sport" tuned suspension, stripped down interiors with carbon fiber in place of leather and seats that offer much more support than the standard car. All are equiped with the F1 style paddle shift transmission but the GranSports get different and more aggressive shift calibrations.

Of course...we went for a ride! :woot2: This car is sooooo smooth. It feels very much like his '02 Cambiocorsa with the volume turned up. The ride is firmer than his '02, the exhaust is louder and much deeper in tone, the shifts are harder and the power delivery comes on sooner and pulls stronger to redline. I am a lucky, lucky man! :2thumbs:

Anyway...enough of my ramblings...here are the pics (12 total)!!

Enjoy,

Mike

The detail:

Wash with Meg's Gold Class shampoo

Clay with Mother's clay bar using Meg's #34 as a lube. The paint felt smooth as glass before I clayed it but I just wanted to make sure I had a squeeky clean surface before I started. The clay revealed no contaminants when I was done.

Glaze with ClearKote's Vanilla Moose by hand with a foam pad. With only 435 miles on the odo the car had no marring whatsoever...no need for the PC.

Seal with Meg's #20 by hand with a foam pad. I let the #20 set on the paint for about 30 minutes before removal with a WCD microfiber.

The GranSport's have a specific body kit on them with deeper front and rear fascia's as well as these ground effects...

The decklid spoiler is exclusive to the GranSport...

Absolutely, positively NO orange peel anywhere on this car.

Carbon fiber in place of leather. Notice the race inspired steering wheel.

Outstanding Mike! Looks like you picked a great combo for silver with VM/#20. Really nice of your client to give you a ride too. I can imagine how much fun it was. :)

How often do you maintain that particular customer's cars?

WOW absolutely fantastic Mike, and this car looks so good from all angles but this is :bow

And NO orange peel whatsoever, damn I was at my local BMW dealer earlier today, and looking over a *brand new* M5, there was OP everywhere.

Very sweet car and finish to the silver there :xyxthumbs

Those Maserati's do sound quite devine, have a similar look to it as the Aston Martin DB7 in some angles

Nice! I have a neighbor that just got one of those (don't think its a GranSport. They bought it as a third car (they had a Durango and an Audi TT before that, talk about a step up LOL). Its sharp.

Great detail!

Wow man you got it made, you work on some of the nicest cars i've ever seen, and get rides in them  . I'm not to big on Maseratis, but that is by far the nicest one i've ever seen. The interior is just hotness :bow

Nice job on the detail, its probably nice knowing all you have to do is clay, polish and wax. No heavy polishing needed.

Thanks Johnny!! I am indeed lucky without question. I always think back to the many years I worked for corporate America before getting the gumption to say "STOP" and do something I love for a living...it keeps me pointed in the right direction.

I'm also lucky in that through some blind luck combined with some aggressive market specific (i.e. sports/muscle cars) marketing I have found myself rubbing on some flat out SWEET rides. The even better part of it all is that some of the owners have been more than willing to give this young "30-something" a taste of their beasts!!

No heavy polishing = a VERY happy 1 Clean WS6 ;)

I know I am not the only one who keeps coming back to this thread to stare at that car and has to clean drool off of their keyboard. ;)

Looks good as always Mike, but then again you sure have silver down pat with Lola and all. (That is her name right) What I like about most of your posts Mike, they are cars that I have never seen before and you give good info on the car for people like me!!

By the way Mike, is that the gear selector, that little guy on the console? It's not push button is it? I see that it has the paddle shift.

Great job.:D

WOW! what more can one say. Every car you detail are not only beautiful and awesome looking, the details are absolutely top notch as well.

Beautiful work as always

It inspired me to watch the Superbit version of Underworld tonight. That way I could drool over the car, the incredible picture and of course, the delectable Kate Beckinsale.
