04 VW JETTA TDI (Diesel) - Just Zaino'd!

Here are pictures of my first serious detail, and my precious VW TDI! The paint was cleaned with Meguires cleaner and a PC and Edge 2000 pad, then followed up with a complete Zaino treatment: claybar, layer of Z2-Pro, then spritzed with Z6, then another layer of Z2-Pro, then Z-6'd again. Interior vinyl is protected with 303 Aerospace Protectant, and every nook and cranny spotless.

Your car has a real healthy glow to it! :)



Just a word of caution, treat your seats and carpets with a product like Scotchguard® and still take care not to spill anything. I find the interior materials VW uses stain rather easily and don't clean up very well.
 
I'm still wondering if there is any type of protective layer of something between the antenna and the paint. :( You don't want to slide the antenna off of the trunk. Those magnets are pretty strong.
 
There probably isnt any protection, I have one on my car, and it hasnt gone anywhere yet, hopefully it isnt causing too much damage.

Do you ever move it to wash around or underneath it? I move mine everytime I wash or wax the roof, so I have a folded piece of plastic about 1.5" square underneath it. That way I can pull on the corners and lift the magnet right off. Never any sliding on the paint.

Oops! You're absolutely right -- I forgot the wheel wells. That will be taken care of. And thanks very much for pointing that out!! As far as the satellite antenna goes, it has a very strong magnet and doesn't move.
 
I know it's strong...I have one. But at some point you're going to want/need to move it, and you'll have to slide it to the edge to remove it.

I've got some 303 Fabric Protectant that will be used to treat the fabrics. I'll probably have time to get around to that this weekend. I bought the car used in late January from a dealer, it's in good shape overall but I'm sure the cloth seats were never treated.

Yup, it's a turbodiesel, it's not exactly a chick magnet but on the other hand I get 40-45 in town and 50 or better on the highway. At my age (47) that's fine. The radio is XM -- a Delphi SkyFi. The mount is a ProFit, custom made to fit the Jetta -- it takes a little work to install but the results are worth it. I can't survive without my XM.



Here's a shot of the turbodiesel power plant. 1.9 liters of diesel fun!

By the way, just a little word of "thanks" to those who created this board and everyone who contributes here. I've been lurking here for a while, soaking up as much info as I can and the result is in the photos above. The only negative thing is that you guys are costing me a bunch of money -- this place is like drugs -- I've got a taste of Zaino and there's no way to break the habit now. Every couple of days I'm spritzing with Z6 and I keep a California duster in the trunk to brush dust and pollen off of the finish. Must...resist....must....resist....can't resist....resistance to detailing is futile!

Actually, there's a safe way to remove the magnet. Just tip it to the side and lift it off. Or, grab it where the wire comes in and gently pull up. The magnet is very strong, but it's still possible to remove the antenna without sliding it.

It'll definitely be worth the time to do it.
 
The Zaino looks great and it will look even better (and add more protection) the more coats you apply. Really nice work!

I like the vanity plate. At least no one will ever wonder what's under the hood. Just looking at that plate I feel the need to warn you to be really careful around the front plate. For some reason VW undersized the plate mount and it leaves that sharp edge of the plate exposed all the way around. Both my friend and I have cut ourselves on the plate on his wife's Jetta. I like the XM mount. It looks very neat and professional.
