04' BMW 330cic Black Sapphire w/ AIO+Wolfgang

I think I found a place for my Wolfgang. The bottle states that it's for metallic and dark cars, so I thought I'd give it a try over AIO. The result is a deep, wet, highly reflective finish. Of course, this was preceded by hours and hours of prep with both the PC and Cyclo.

Process:

Wash, Clay, Wash

3M PI II RC on hood and trunk- PC / orange Sonus pad

1Z PP over the whole car- PC / green Sonus pad

1Z PP over hood and trunk (2nd pass)- Cyclo / green pads

Klasse AIO - PC / blue Sonus pad

Wolfgang- PC / grey Sonus pad

Klasse AIO on wheels

Zep protectant on tires

Plexus on all plastic

Thanks! The color is growning on me. We bought it about a week ago, and I flew to Atlanta to pick it up and drive it back home (New Orleans). When I picked it up, it was overcast and very humid which made the car look almost jet black. Once I got home, and the sun was out the color was completely different. At night the car looks jet black, in the sun it either looks like a very dark grey or a *funny* looking black. It was hard taking these pictures because if I stood certain ways, it almost had a silvery tint to it. Overall, now that it's polished, the color is great, but before polishing, the heavy metallic made it appear very shallow.

Great car, nice job on the detail.

How do you like the SMG, do you think its similar to driving a stick?

I love the SMG. It's exactly like driving a stick, just without the clutch. It was hard to get used to at first because I kept thinking I needed to shift, but I didn't. It's definitely fun to drive.

That looks great Jason. The flake jumps right out at you. Beautiful car too. I wish I had known you were coming to Atlanta; it would have been nice to meet for lunch or something.

I have a sequential shifter too and really like it; a clutch can be a PITA in Atlanta traffic.

Amazing work

I did an X5 in that color...Mmm what a pleasure it was to look at it when I was done :)

Those rims are yummy as well :)

How do you like the Zep protectant? Where can ya get it?

Very nice indeed, mine is cosmos black, and very similar to the sapphire black that you have. You only have the 'tip-tronic' I notice, in my car there is an option to 'switch' between auto mode, and 'trip-tronic' / sports mode. However, I do notice you have a 'sports button' which is not on mine, so perhaps that has something to do with it :)

Don't know about you, but I always feel BMW have the gear shifting in the wrong direction, surely its more logical to move the lever up to move up the gears 1,2,3,4,5 than their way? :)

Superb detail :xyxthumbs

Thats freaking bad ***. :bow :bow :bow I love that color.

Ive always loved the look of AIO/WG if you want to go deeper and wetter try P21s. Thats a beautiful color hands down.

good work.:xyxthumbs

Mtodde,

Shucks, that would have been awesome. I completely forgot you were in Atlanta otherwise I would have defintely met up with you. :(

GSRstilez,

You can get the Zep protectant from any professional detail supply store. I got mine from my friend that owns a tunnel car wash. It's a thick white gel and you dillute it 50/50 with water so it lasts a VERY long time. I love the stuff. It is nice and glossy when applied and stays that way until a hard rain when all it does is dull down to what ArmorAll looks like if you just put it on.

Axe,

This isn't the Steptronic automatic, it's the SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox) which is a 6 speed manual. The Steptronic is a 5 speed automatic that has *shift yourself* capabilities. This is a manual that has automatic capabilities. The SMG is a manual transmission with a computer controlled hydraulic clutch. To switch into full manual mode, all I have to do is either tap the shift lever over or push one of the steering wheel mounted controls.

The Sport button changes the characteristics of the shifting mechanism for more aggressive driving, which is fully adaptive also so it learns as you drive. I actually like how the car upshifts better in sport mode, but it holds gears a little too long and downshifts a little too firm for normal driving.

As fas as the shifter, I actually like the direction of the shifting. When accelerating, the momentum naturally pushes against you which is consistent with pulling the shifter back. When decelerating, the momentum is switched forward so you push the shifter forward.

Man oh man... I love that car.. Ive always wanted one just like it..maybe one day.

Zep Tire Protectant...that isnt the same Zep brand from Home Depot is it? If it is Im going to Home Depot to look for it tommorow. I really like the look of them tires with that on there. What was the price of it and do you have a picture of the bottle..im extremely interested in it as you can never try too many tire shines.

CutNAction,

Ask and you shall receive. I don't know if Home Depot will have this or not, but it is the same brand that they carry. I have no idea of the price because it was given to me. I certainly wouldn't use this on my interior but for outside trim and tires it's pretty awesome and last a very long time. If you don't want it to be quite so glossy, just wipe off the excess after it dries.

:bow Very wet looking Jason. I love the up and down shifters on the steering column. That's a great color. I bet Souveran would look great as the LSP.

Mmm, you read my mind....Souveran. I think I am going to put another coat of Wolfgang on before I top it, but it *will* be Souveran.

Jason,

Do let Todd or I know when you are next in Atlanta. We would be happy to buy you lunch and talk detailing. :)

I have had really good success with Souveran on dark BMW paints. I may do a dark blue 5 series soon.
