04 Acura TL made me crazy!

I will post pics later, but this past weekend I finally started my weekend warrior detailing season (Better late than never) on my GF's dad's 04 TL Nighthawk black pearl (What a great color)!

Background: 04 TL garaged and not driven often. Well maintained with reguilar washes although wash practices could be better. Car had a great deal of spiderweb scratches, minimal water marks. A bunch of fine scratches and a few that were pretty deep.

***A TON OF LEFT OVER DRIED WAX****

Process:

Wash wheels with Detailing Dynamics wheel shampoo and Danase Foaming Soap. Tires and wheel wells got Deep Purple APC diluted 2:1.

BODY:

Washed with Danase Foaming soap with a lil dawn mixed in and chenille mitt

Clayed with detailing dynamics clay with Zaino Z7/water as lube.

Rewashed with foam soap and a lil dawn.

Polish:

Tried using Menzerna IP with cyclo yellow pads on cyclo. Though I was making headway until I still saw minor scratches. For poops and giggles I did a test area with PG on the yellow pads and despite being harsh, the PG didn't really haze the paint. I then went over the PG with 106FF on green pads and it finished amazingly so I went that combo over the entire vehicle.

I was pretty happy after the PG and figured what little was left of the fine scratches would be removed by the 106FF.

****BTW This was my first time using 106FF and let me just tell everyone that if you don't have this polish, you are working TOO HARD. This polish isn't a luxury, I feel it is a MUST HAVE!!! If you do more than your own vehicle 1X per year, you need 106FF****

I polished again using green pads on the cyclo and the 106FF created a great finish. My only concern is that despite my best efforts, I couldn't get a bunch of the fine spider web scratches out, even with multiple passes! *** am I doing wrong. Although the finish is like glass, under flourescent lights and if you look just the right way, you can still see a few of those fine scratches. It pissed me off something fierce!

Second issue, there has to be ab etter way to remove caked on, dried up wax as my clay couldn't remove. I had a small detailing brush that would work, but it took forever. Any tips for removing dried wax to those really tight areas you get tools into?

LSP:

I used ZFX Zaino Z5 x2 with Z6 in between and after the 2nd. I wanted to top with CS but I couldn't remeber if I can use that over the ZFX Z5 right away or if it needed more time to cure. I know ZFX allows teh Zaino sealants to cure, but figured I would use caution. I am going to wash the TL next weekend and follow up with CS.

Please feel free to comment and flame as you wish, as long as I learn from it and get better, I don't care how harsh you are! LOL

Thanks!

I'll post photos shortly. I got done yesterday and I was losing light, had to clean up and then drive take my GF back to her house so she can drop off the TL and then get back to my house to watch entourage (Which I missed anyway).....By that time it was too late to DL photos.

Is it really that noticeable? Whenever I do a job I don't expect it to be 100% swirl free. I'm very happy with 90-95% and so are the customers. I explain upfront that I will restore it to 90-95% and that they will not notice the rest. If they really want to get it 100% I can do it, but will charge a lot more.

For you dried wax, have you tried QD?

Same with me...most people I do cars for take such terrible care of them, that anything is a drastic improvement. When its returned fully polished and waxed (even though only 90% of the swirls are out and the deeper scratches still exist), they are blown away.

This is my take for daily drivers...for garage queens I'd really try and go after that last 10%.

They aren't that noticeable at all, but I feel that with what I used, they should have been almost all gone. The ones that are left are so fine....it's like the PG and 106 never touched em!

Edited for for G rating now. I apologize if my language offended anyone.

Only thing I can think of is maybe I am applying LSP or removing LSP with too much force. I use high quality applicators and MF's so it's like cheapies that cause fine scratches.

As promised, finally got around to uploading the pics. After seeing the before and afters, I think the end results were pretty good although in one b4 pic there is a nice scratch on the rear bumper and I was able to completely remove it whereas I still had some very fine scratches that I couldn't remove. Very weird!

Apparently this guy wanted to help me on the first day as he hung around for a few hours just chilling andflying around. Since I had the camera handy, I figured why not take a pic and see how close I can get!

Great job Diesel! I own a Nighthawk Black Pearl '05 TL and can't get out all the swirls/spider webs either with my PC although most come out. You have to look in bright sunlight to see them.

That would have been nice to know last weekend!!! LOL Thanks for the compliments. I least my GF's father really liked it. He doesn't want to drive it now!

I just don't undertsand how some scratches, even deeper ones, can be removed and yet others which seem lighter, won't budge!

I'm working on a dark blue-green 1998 Civic that I'll finish tonight after work. Same thing. Some of the fine swirls seem to hang in. I've used OC x 3 in most of the worst areas with the Scratchbuster DAS pad. Still, owner is extremely thrilled at the improvement.

Nice job on the TL. Looks great.
