02 Porsche 911 GT2

Question:

In a different section of this forum, i made a comment about the fact I typically tape off windows, etc of my car when I detail it and the comment was met with a what a waste of time type of attitude. Then I come here and find this post with the car taped off.

The other poster made it seem like a waste of time because "most products that you put on your paint are just as helpful for glass", therefore I'm curious what is your reasoning for taping off? What do you tape off versus what you don't etc...

Btw...Great work on a great car which happens to be my 2nd favorite car besides the unattainable Carrera GT.

A little prep is insurance. Running a buffer at 1800 rpms and hitting trim is trouble. Either staining or burnt trim will occur. I tape certain crevices so that polishing residue and dust will not gather to where I cant clean it. Hey if someone doesnt want to tape trim that's their preference. I have my own preference which is better safe then sorry. When doing the cars I have been getting, there is ZERO room for error lol!

Great work and beautiful car. :bow

Who would have thought that a GT2 with a boxer-style motor redlines at only 6500 rpms. :nixweiss

I guess the twin-turbo makes up for it. The owner mentioned he had some minor engine work and is pushing around 450rwhp if im not mistaken. :)

Beautiful job Chris, as always.

Just out of curiousity, what brand pads do you use?

I use LC DA flat 6.5 inch pads (i think they are simply relabeled under Wolfgang). I have CSS pads as well but do not like them at all.

That red does look amazing, I have a question about the vintage though.

I read somewhere that you can't use it for commercial use if you want free refills, but yet I hear of detailers using it all the time, how can this be?

I am asking because eventually, I want to buy it because in the long run I will save money with it but if I can only use it on my own cars, and not my customers, then it is not worth it to me.

ron231,

from what zymol has explained to me, if Vintage is used for commercial use (or any Zymol products that have free refills) you can not get refills, once you buy Vintage you have to register it and if you do it under a company name they will void the refill, or if they find out you are using it for commercial use they will void the lifetime refills.

However if your customer owns it and you detail his car with it , its a different story.

Wow that's news to me. I'll have to be careful if (if it ever happens) I decide to change professions and decide to use my own stock. I kind of knew that Zymol wasn't exactly sleeping with the refills.

Chris,

Man, the red on that GT2 cant be any better. One of my fav Porsche all time :)

On your Nikon D40x, I see u using in M mode. Whats the shutter speed and F/stop number you set it on?

I have a D40(not an X). I'm going order me the 18-200mm VR lens(need to wait another 3 more weeks..back order :( ).

Sorry to reply late: The Fstop and Shutter speeds I adjusted according to lighting. I believe I used a low F-stop, around 5.6, for almost all the shots. The Shutter speed was really low for the garage shots, i think around 1/25 or something like that. The outside shots were around 1/125 I believe. Lighting is the biggest determing factor of the shutter speed. Anything below 1/100 shutter speed is highly recommended you use a tripod unless you have VERY steady hands, in which case I dont especially after detailing the car.

My dad has the VR 17-200 lens and the reviews are absolutely stellar. I plan on getting the smae lens once my financial situation justifies the purchase :)
