01 Volvo..from pink to red with wool pads

I did this extremely oxidized Volvo a couple of weeks ago. The before pics don't really show just how oxidized the paint was. The passenger rear qtr panel and spoiler where the only areas that showed the true color (repainted). He got a great deal on this car as a dealership lost it for 3 years and was already paid by the insurance company. Three years of nothing but the elements and bird bombs.

I can tell you that I spent hours cleaning about 12 pads I used to polish this beast. Some are still a little pink. Thank God for my metabo and edge wool pads.

Products used:

CG Citrus wash

Clay

edge 8" wool pads (yellow and green)

HT 357

SIP

several CCS pads (orange and white)

PoliSeal

OCW

BnB

luster lace on exhaust

BF interior protectant

The interior was the cleanest I have found in a long time so the vast majority of the day was spent on the paint.

I think the polishing was about 4 hours, maybe 5.

I usually don't take a lot of photos of afters unless I have lots of time. This day the owner was ready to take it home as I was finishing.

I think the car is an 01 with about 50k on the odo. He is the first owner and has only had it for a couple of years I think.

I gave him a good wash mitt, some wash and a WW towel to keep it nice until I see it again in about 4 months. It will be much easier next time.

Tks for the kind words.

Great job on the red.

I just did one like it yesterday in the same red color. It was actually 4 shades of very dull red with repainted parts that they cleared also. The stock paint was single stage. I was amazed at how it came out.

what was your process/products?

i wonder if a stong paint cleaner and terry wouldn't have saved me some time running through so many pads.

I used a Schlegel wool pad and Presta UCCL and that brought the dullness out into a very deep rich glow. I had to water mist the pad to refine the finish. I just hated the part of being all red after the job. I am not a big fan of SS paint though.

Great work on the red Volvo. I love using the edge wool on SS paint.

Guys a pad washer comes in very handy when doing a job like this. Takes under a min to clean a pad. You can use the same wool or foam pad throughout the entire detail.

Paul, nice work! I know your more than glad you put the Metabo to work.;) You really do need a pad washer now that you're using wool. It's so much easier. I'll let you know how mine works out as it's on the way now.:D

Oh yeah. Rental car places lose cars all the time so it doesn't surprise me at all.

I hv been looking at the pad washer system. Looks like it would save some time. Does it work on 4" to 8" pads?

I think the company moved the car from one lot to another and lost track of it somehow. The guy got it for a very good price.
