'01 Ferrari F360

if this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it ; )

This is an '01 f360 that has about 13K on the odo. i took these pictures today before it was picked up for a service visit to Algar Ferrari, which is partly why he paid for a detail in the middle of the winter. he wanted the dealer to see the car in pristine shape. i only got a few marginal pictures during the time i was working on it a couple weeks back and i don't have a good camera (canon a570is) so i only took basic pics, no before of afters or any sexy detailed finish condition pics.

The car has never seen a real corrective detail in its life and it showed. The current owner has had it for several years and personally washes the car religiously. Evidently he attempted several times to use a 7336 with Griots products to make the car pretty, but about all he succeeded at was applying too much hard-to-remove wax each time. He was using red pads with the machine polish, having to fight against stubborn wax smears...just not good.

It had tons of RIDS everywhere. It also has a vintage clear bra on it that has quite a few uncorrectable swirls in itself, has yellowed a bit, especially toward the bottom of the car and the front portions of the bra had yellow clay along all of the seams.

The wheels are OZ Superleggera III's that were painted while assembled (meaning, not split into 2 or 3 pieces for paint). The lips are clear coated and are laden with scratches.

I spent about 6 hours initially prepping the car and working on the finish. At a later date i did the interior, but decided to continue to refine the exterior for another few hours, so in the end i spent about 8.5-9 hours on the exterior, and 4 elsewhere, such as the interior.

I was pretty pleased with the end result, but this car is what prompted me to get a 9227c. It just took too long with the PC to get results on this rather hard clear coat. the entire car had flaws on practically every square inch. i could have possibly started with optimum compound throughout as opposed to the polish, considering the flexibility of their compound (not hyper), however i have no idea how much clear is on this thing so i started with a pretty light combination and just spent the time.

The issues i could not totally correct were the billions of light scratches on the clear coated lips of the wheels. I was able to make the lips appear better by a hand application of poli-seal and then some optimum spray wax, but if it were my wheels i would have them refinished. also, various issues with the clear bra. thankfully the technology has advanced quite a bit in that realm, so the issues that this car faces with the bra are a thing of the past with current products. the driver's side seat showed some bolster wear, which is typical of ferraris. These ferraris have a felt-like trim to seal the doors. they pick up everything and anything and are not very easy to clean. i used a lint roller, i probably have to use 20:1 powerclean and some sort of brush, but i have not quite dialed that in yet.

That's one of my favorite Ferraris. I wish I had payed more attention in School so I could own one...:laugh:

trust me on this one: you'd be better off with a porsche or z06 ; )

Premium, thanks. i wish i had a better camera to highlight progress, etc.

If i get the right customer come down the pike, maybe a job or two will pay for that Pentax i've had my eye on ; )

Very nice! How do you like that optimum tire shine?

i'm sure there is a bunch of good stuff out there, but i love it. i absolutely love it. a little on the applicator i mentioned goes a long way and it lasts quite a long time on the tire. i believe it's because it actually feeds the rubber vs. just dressing it.

i like tire products that mimic new, clean tires and this is the ticket for that.

I own this same Ferrari in RED and have some questions. I recently bought a PC7424 and enough product to do both my cars for a few lifetimes. I'm a little unsure what is best and would like some input. My Ferrari is garage kept and has been done almost a year ago in full Zaino. One thing I noticed when I did full detail last year, when car is unwaxed and you look really close at hood and front fenders, the paint appears to be pitted. The only thing it can be is that when I had 3M clear bra put on car about 2 years ago, they said they needed to respray front to cover any rock marks for Bra to come out right. Since the finish feels smooth, either the paint was pitted and was covered with thick clear or maybe the suface wasn't perfectly clean causing the clear to not stick in a flat layer? I just bought the 7424 and tried earlier tonight to go over a fender with Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover and then with WG Finishing Glaze. It still has the little spots, but greatly reduced. What do you think it can be and should I keep at it till it's gone, or not worry about it since you can't see it when waxed?

The only other question is best order and which products to use. On the Ferrari, the above issue is only paint repair needed, the rest of car could possibly benifit from WG Finishing Glaze to sharpen paint. The product I bought are: EVERY Zaino product from every wax, wash, clay, leather, vinyl, glass, plastic, etc. I got Wolfgang Total Swirl Remover 3.0, Finishing Glaze 3.0, Deep Gloss Paint Sealant 3.0, Pinnacle Souveragn paste, ALL P21S wash, clean, pre wax, wax, Klasse AIO, Kasse Sealant Glaze, All Pinnacle XMT line, 3M glaze, Meguiars #7 glaze, etc,

I was thinking doing this:

=Wash with Pinnacle wash

=Pinnacle or Zaino clay

=Paint Correction if needed- leaning towards WG total swirl remover over XMT

=WG Finishing Glaze

=this next step is where I am most confused=

=Clean everything with Klasse AIO

=WG Deep Gloss Paint Sealant (can I do this AND AIO)

=Final coat of Souveragn Paste wax

A final question. My everyday car is an 2007 Maserati Quattroporte. It is non metallic black and has a lot of swirls and very light scratches. Since it definitely needs paint repair work, would above also be best? I really don't know if these cars have hard or soft clears, or do they look best with certain products since they have non metallic paints. Please Help, every time I think I got it down on which order to use, I hear you cant mix one or the other. Thanks in advance! Sorry for long post, I'm new and this is my first post! So confused! :wall

Hello

There is NO NEED to apply KAIO after Wolfgang finishing polish.

Wolfgang sealant, the old version and the new 3.0 are totally fine over glazes such as RMG, the oils in the finishing polish will not cause a problem.

I think on Autogeek they even tell you that you can go straight to Wolfgang sealant after the finishing polish. It contains oils that improve the look of the paintwork too, you dont want to remove thats apply the rather uninspiring KAIO.

I dont know if you have factored in time, but Wolfgang Sealant is water based, you cant top it or expose it to moisture too soon as it will drown and not cure properly. What percentage of curing takes place in the first hour or 10 mins im not exactly sure, alot i would expect as i have had it rain on fresh WG Sealant and it still last for 3 months. Im on my 4th month now over RMG and things are still looking good!
