Liquid Glass: Were There 2 Kinds ??

I used to use Liquid Glass about 15 years ago. As I recall -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- there were 2 different kinds of LG. One of them was "the original" and I believe it had a picture of a 1966 or 1967 Corvette on the cover of it's tin-can container.

I can't remember if I used the other one, but I recall reading from my Corvette mags that it was a newcomer, wasn't the original, etc. I don't believe it was the same exact chemical compound under different packaging.

Anyone here able to clear this up? I stopped using the stuff in the early 1990's. BTW, if anyone has a link to this site on any detailed experiences recently using Liquid Glass (my SEARCH function turned up nada), or a good place to purchase it, let me know.

Yep, it still has that pic on the can. AFAIK, there weren't two versions of it. They do have a precleaner kinda product and their own wash.

I used to use it fairly regularly. It was the first sealant I tried. It does produce a nice finish and IMO it's one of the best OTC sealants.

A while back, some company (I don't remember who) marketed an "Advanced Liqui-Glass" (notice the difference in spelling). For a while there, "Liquid Glass" in their advertisements stated that:

"We do not manufacture or a private label an 'Advanced' version, the only product we market is in a gold can with a red corvete on the label."

It was just a name-scam by another company to use the real Liquid Glass's reputation to their own benefit

Thanks, guys....I think your can is dated PB....I think the LG Company has a newer picture and graphics, no? The can style and shape looks the same though.

I didn't know LG was a sealant....at the time, pre-internet, unless you were a professional or worked for an auto company, I think all of us thought sealants-waxes-finishes were all the same. I used to wash my Vette and then put on 2 coats of LG. It was good -- but as I recall, it was REALLY TOUGH to get that stuff off the car (though in hindsight I probably worked in direct sunlight many times). I think taking off 1 coat of LG with my old towels was toughter and more tiring thatn taking off 3 or 4 coats of stuff today with MF towels. I would suspect that with MF towels that LG would come off alot easier.

Good info to know about LG...for when I get my next Vette! lol

PB....I KNOW your can is dated....no WAY I paid $2.50 for a can of Liquid Glass! lol....I think I paid close to $20 back in the late 1980's/early 1990's.

I'll bet your can dates from the 1960's.

that picture is from the original company...the owner died and it was completely changed when the Corvette was put on the can...new company... new formula..I was told the new stuff is the same as Astroshield...another sealant company...I think they also make Big Ron's product too:lmfao

Good

I was using flannel cloths at the time and it seemed fairly easy to apply and remove, A LOT easier than, say, Blitz paste wax

Really Bill? I didn't use real carnuba waxes back then, I just got whatever looked like a decent paste wax from the Long Island auto supply stores and looked like it was one step better than Turtle Wax (that was good for my mom's Duster, not my precious Vette!).

Yeah, I remember it was alot of work. Maybe it was the LG, sunlight, and fiberglass. But I remember it was not easy, and I remember saying many a time "It's killing me, but it will be worth it when I'm finished...need to protect my Baby....almost done...almost done...almost done." Whew! That brings back memories.

Maybe I put it on thick -- and I can check back with my cousins, who sometime helped me (they were in their early 'teens then) -- but I think it took me 2 hours or so to do a complete wash and double LG. So figure 30 minutes for the wash and 45 minutes each for the LG coatings...double or triple what the stuff took me last week to put on.

He he, yeah that was my reasoning for getting it too! I sorta did a wipe on wipe off method with it, maybe that made it easier for me? :dunno

LG sells for 18.99 at most stores. The can is tan and has a white triangle with i think a red car in the middle. As far as I know there was only one formula

I know there was a knockoff because I was paranoid about NOT using the wrong one on my Corvette circa 1988.

I have to check out my old Vette mags and see if I can find an ad for the 2nd one...
