Applying wax by hand using?

Hi
this is kinda a stupid question , but can I use a microfiber cloth to spread out paste wax, or do i have to use a applicator pad?
 
If I apply by hand, I use a foam applicator. I prefer the foam applicators (not the little yellow ones like 4-in pads using the polishing pad. I think you get less drag and more uniform application.

I prefer to use foam if applying by hand using the foam blocks or pads - not the yellow discs.

This is a 4-in pad (Cyclo white) with a polishing pal. Works with pre-wax cleaners too.

I also use the polishing pal pad holder and it really helps if you have issues with your hands cramping.
