What do you look for in a wax?

ease of application
ease of removal. no dusting!
will not stain trim.
look and protection.

the best i have used to date is DP MAX WAX.

For a wax I like several things. Some of the most important are easy to put on and remove, great smell, durability (especially in winter), a good wet look when finished, really slick finish, and a great smell. Some of my favorite smells are from the tropics. I love the ocean and love the tropical smells. I can tell you from expereince that the best smelling wax ever is not a tropical scent, it's Chocwork Orange. The whole garage smelled like chocolate orange for severa days after the appication of the wax. My truck had the same smell, even outside. It was the best smeling wax ever. The finish was very wet looking and really slick. I can't wait to see the next wax from Dan. My only complaint is a bigger jar, I don't want to run out. I'm actuially saving the rest to use only on my truck.

My list

Looks
slickness
ease of application/removal
Layering ability
compatibility with other products
durability

If you could make that wax with great looks with a coating in it..... WOW !

I'd jump right in

For me, the biggest things are different than most, because my outside 24/7 is coated and my garage queen (which is driven probably more than the outside car but still not a ton ~3,000 miles per year) is well taken care of and doesn't need the protection.

While scent and color are nice, I wouldn't say that they are the main thing that I look at when purchasing a wax. So long as the scent is not heavy solvent or overpowering fragrance, I don't pay too much attention to it.

The looks is the most important thing for me. It is all about how the wax actually looks. Reputation and rarity are important, since waxes have become a sort of status symbol. If you're using rare waxes from a name like Zymöl or Swissvax, people's ears perk up (those are just two examples. Of course, there are many more exclusive brands.)

Cost takes secondary and tertiary importance over the looks, gloss, reputation, and rarity. That being said, I don't think I would purchase some $3,000 wax, but then again, I might!

Easy application is icing on the cake but truthfully, I've used waxes that are a pain but continue to use because it imparts the looks that we like. Of course, as technology becomes better and better this is becoming easier to achieve.

Ideally, a wax would last over a month (or at least a full month). Anything less than that and I would think that it's just a glaze that is not providing too much protection.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your future wax endeavors. Happy detailing!

^^^ I'm really starting to like this guy.

Thanks mate

Same lol. I enjoy a manufacturer being active on the forum answering questions. Shows they care about the consumer and not just the money.

I agree about the limited edition waxes. I understand it costs money from the r&d point but then manufactures knock consumers over the head with the profit margins because they know we will buy.

Perhaps a wax that was a standard formula but the consumer could customize color, scent maybe even container color. Seen another manufacturer do it and would like this type of customization. One formula so you don't have to kill yourself making tons to fit the consumer model but the consumer can at least have the wax customized to certain specs of theirs.

Its a good idea and i know a few manufacturers do this but you then go away from that totally one off custom wax.

Cost, looks, ease of use, and longevity. Scents and colors don't matter to me, but it does add the "enjoyment to use" factor.

Thankyou mate

Thanks mate appreciate the support. Regarding the jar all waxes sold on Dodos IWL are 100ml, in the future if i decide to go on my own ive thought about 250ml or 8oz pots but i do find that these can be a pain to carry around and you tend to see people use them and then sell them on, i quite like the 100ml pots they are cheaper and can be carried better, and you can get a good 25 coats out of a pot. :D

Thanks mate appreciate your imput as i do everyone else's.

Alot of manufacturers do say you should strip a wax every 2 months anyway and put a fresh coat on, altho a wax may protect for longer the looks and gloss do start to degrade most of the time after 8 weeks. I dont know how true this is, altho i have seen examples of this.

Ease of use for me is a must, i also want to deliver a wax that spreads for longer, like Chocwork Orange one swipe will do a bonnet (hood) again delivering more for your money.

So another question, what would be a fair price for 100ml pot of wax? Would you expect a wax that cost $35 to be a lesser wax than a wax costing $100?

beauty wax?
durable wax?

Really depends, price doesn't bother me as much as getting value for the price paid.

I paid 275 for swisswax smagard, and all I got was a little more durability thatn a 20 tub of nattys blue

Any wax really what would you be happy to pay for a wax? Would a wax that bridges the gap between looks and durability and massive water repellency for $45 for example be a good price?

I'm a skeptic, seeing is believing.

Natty's is a great wax and so is Black Ice.

25.00 - 150.00 - It really depends on how it feels, looks, works, acts etc. As I said, price doesn't bother me as much as I want what I want.

Sorry I find it really hard to be descriptive, but to me wax is personal, as much as a wallet must fit my butt well, a wax has to fit what I want well.

This sounds like I'm being a jerk, and I'm sorry I am not trying to be, it's just tough to put into words

No i understand what you mean mate, all products are personal to us all, and i know my questions are sometimes hard to answer and everyone has their own opinion about what they want from a wax. As a manufacturer i have to look at what people want and obviously want to create brand of products that meet the needs of pros/amateurs/enthusiasts etc.

Thanks for your input :)

What do I look for in a WAX????????????????????????

Think "Wax" should be the number one answer. :D

1) Looks is generally most important to me
2) Can't be 2 hard to use as I don't want to marr up my hours of polishing
3) Sometimes durability but sometimes NOT
4) Think everyone loves bead porn..
5) Sometimes just to add to my collection
6) Total Package......meaning looks good, value, Ease of use and durability.
7) FUNability....is the wax a pleasure to use of will it just collect dust.

Just some of my thoughts. Guess I could go on and on and on and on and on and on.....

Can you include a pack of Skittes with it too. With your last wax I had to buy a pack of chocolate orange sticks.

Lol could be an idea, it does smell nice, unfortunately i was hoping to do a sample of this wax to you all, but it hasn't met my standards, so just waiting for my last ingredients to arrive which should be tomorrow and ill have something more on point. Colour will be more of a deep red and scent better. Also my show wax is about done just need to tweak final blend but i will do a small sample run for you all soon, altho im not sure you will get them before xmas so may hold off until new year. Stay tuned! :yourrock
