Should I throw Meg's #16 and BFWD in the trash?

I've had these for years, at this point I've moved on to the simplest detailing products possible, which happen to all be Optimum products by coincidence (i.e. Optiseal). I remember #16 looking fantastic on my old car, but what a PITA to use. I don't remember caring much for BFWD. What do you guys think, is there any need for these semi-outdated products anymore? If I ever buy stuff in the future I need to get a travel size, ha...I only detail my car so pretty much I always have a full bottle of something lying around.

BTW been an autopia.org member for like 12 years, but had to re-register for this updated site. Maybe some of you remember me by name, but I'm not a troll :)

As long as it's been stored properly meaning no extreme / fast temp changes, there should be no problem with them. Shake them really well and you should be good to go. I have some PB products here that are over 5 years old ( I buy some buy the gallon) that are still just fine.

Now if your not going to use them any longer then that's different, find a home with a neighbor or friend that would like to try something different

I'm sure there are plenty of people here who would be happy to pay the shipping charges for them. Especially the BFWD.

You do know that the original autopia.org site still exists, right? (It's down temporarily this week for a server migration I believe). This site is not the same and shares only part of its name in common.

Wow! I'm all kinds of confused. I don't visit autopia.org much but when I saw the page was down I googled autopia and saw this site. So I just assumed they migrated to a new message board. Whoops.

Well glad to hear that BFWD and even #16 are still popular. I thought they were outdated. I'll probably hang on to them for a while. The biggest thing for me and detailing is that after a decade I've gotten very tired of spending multiple hours with a PC to put on 2-4 different products to get a nice shine. I've found the Opti-Seal has a pretty darn good result considering it's ease of use.

What do you guys think if I used BFWD and wait a day, put on the #16 and then *refresh* the shine every other month or so with the Opti-Seal? That may not be a good marriage of products at all, I'm just trying to throw some ideas out there to get the best shine with the products I have. And again, wanting to resort to the Opti-Seal every few months limits the number of times I have to spend hours with the PC :)

By the way, welcome to the forum. I think you'll find this forum to be helpful, friendly and capaple of meeting any of your detailing needs. It might have been a simple mistake that brought you here but I think it was probably good CARma. ;)

This site is a collective of what was formerly Detail City and Truth in Detailing forums. Perhaps you'll remember those names. Autopia Car-Care is our site sponsor and is an online store with few rivals. They carry just about any major brand, many boutique products and listen to members of this site when it comes to adding products to their store.

If you haven't checked out the store you owe it to yourself to take a look (there's a link in the upper left corner of the page). The parent company is Palm Beach Motoring Group (same group that owns AutoGeek). You may already be familiar with PBMG.

AutopiaForums is a great Detailing board. Glad to have you here.

Meguiar's 16 is "outdated" in the sense that it is an old, solvent-rich, non-VOC compliant formula but IT still looks great, still lasts an incredibly long time, and still promotes excellent water beading.

BFWD, imo, is still the best sealant in the game, as far as I am concerned.

That said...

I never liked applying M16 over anything. M16 has a good amount of solvents in it, and these solvents are likely to "clean" any wax or sealant off the paint.

Given the products you have on hand, I would go with Wet Diamond as your base and maintain with Opti-Seal as you see fit.

Also, welcome to AutopiaForums!

Weird, but I have a can of Megs 16 in the house and have never used it. A buddy sent it to me cause it was one of those - special - they don't make this stuff anymore deals and he "knew" I would appreciate that. Actually, cognac yes - #16 I dunno.
So - o great and wise Todd, what's the trick for using this stuff?

Thanks a lot for the response. I think I originally used #16 on top of NXT when NXT was sort of popular. I don't know who recommended that combo but I tried it with an older car and it seemed to really make a dark blue deep and shiny.

I like the idea of the BFWD and maintaining with the Opti-Seal. Good to know those two work well together. BTW my car now is a metallic black, so the deeper shine I can achieve, the better.

I still have a can of Megs #16. I can't get rid of it. It's to nostalgic :)

I think that is the purpose mine is going to serve as well. Doesn't sound like it's going to beat the BFWD/Opti-Seal combo anytime soon, not to mention wow is it a bear to remove!

I love Meguires #16.As long as you don't put it on too heavy it is not that hard to work with. The shine is great. It is still one of my favorites. Send it to me for a christmas present!!
