Opti Seal Durability

Hello everybody. I would like to share my recent experience on Opti Seal Durability.

The Opti-Seal old formula was applied by me on 7 Oct 2012 on my friend's new BMW F10. 1 layer done within 15 minutes (I proceeded very slowly). OS made the paint exceptionally glossy and wet looking.

He is not a detailing guy so the car is just washed with water and kitchen towels. Apartment car, driven a few times a week.
I saw the car on 9 Jun 2013 and it started to rain:

It might be difficult to see in white, but the beads are still very uniform, and paint is still slick to touch.
Does that mean something to you for durability and protection?
It does to me!
 
Most will experience 3-4 months of durability, maybe a little less.

However all conditions and paints are so different that nothing surprises me. I have seen waxes which are noted for their extremely short life cycles last over a year on show queens that sit inside. I also witnessed everything last at least twice as long on an '04 Sonata then it should have.
 
I've always had very poor durability (a month or 2) using UPGP on an outdoor kept car compared to one that I've had a garage (seemed to last over a year easily). However, one time I had a chance to put UPGP on in a garage and keep the car there overnight. That application showed tremendous durability with beading beyond 8 months even when the car was kept outdoors all the time. Now I'm thinking it's the full cure has to happen in dry controlled conditions for the durability to be there. The same probably applies to optiseal and is one reason I'm guessing for the widely varying durability people get.
 
wow. that's very good durability. i think it has a lot to do with weather, driving and storage conditions. a car that has to sit outside 24/7 or that is driven a lot, wouldn't fare as well i believe.

This is a great point! One of the reasons that it is so hard for manufacturers to quote durability is because the application methods can vary greatly (not to mention paint, contamination, environment, etc).

I have a question.

Did the OS really make the paint exceptionally wet and glossy, or was that a result of polishing?

Mr. Gloss,
Yes prep is the key for 99% of how your car look.
What I mean is OS gives a bright and glossy look to the paint after prep work.
That is probably the 1% difference but it is noticeable for sure.
 
Tropicsteve.....Is that a boxer picture under your name? I had three...lost two last spring and now have two. Three of the dogs have been rescue dogs.
