Your preferred method of applying wax

If I am applying wax by hand, I use a the Pinnacle Polishing Pal or Meguiar's S3HP and a 3-4 inch finishing pad.

If I am applying wax by DA, I use a 4-5.5 inch finishing pad.

You can use the pads with any liquid or paste wax.
I stopped using yellow foam applicator on my paint some time ago, because finishing pad work better and faster. Quality finishing pad sold on Autopia also last longer.
I only use yellow applicator for my interior now.

Do youi really lile the polish pal?

It seems like a good idea, but being old school, I want to "feel".

Seems like a good idea, and gives a more "even" application but........

I have small hands, so the Polishing Pal (3.5") is too big for my hand actually. S3HP (3") suits my hand better.

The first advantage being a solid hook and loop backing of these pad holders, you apply a more even pressure than a yellow foam applicator where your fingers are the backing. You can polish and wax more evenly and your fingers will say "thank you" at the end of the day.

The pot opening size of PBMG wax is 3.5 inch, so the red pad of Polishing Pal will fit very well and allow wax to be transferred onto the pad evenly. This is better than to "get some wax onto the edge of pad" of using a yellow foam applicator where you cant get wax on it evenly because they are often larger.

If you have used Nattys wax, white blue red, you know that the pot diameter is less than 3.5 inch at the bottom. So I can switch to the Griot Garage 3 inch pad and access the wax at the bottom well. If I use a wax with large pot like Mothers, 3M, Meguiar's, then I can step up to a 4 inch pad from Cyclo.

Hope that helps.
