We're glad you guys are interested in this new tool of ours - we're really excited about it!
Now, obviously, if you're used to using a full DA, Flex 3401 or rotary buffer you're not going to put those down and do all work from here on with this tool and your drill. We get that. But for all those people who are terrified of a buffer but already are comfortable with a drill, or for those who simply can't lay out $150 for a buffer plus all the pads that go with it, this is a great entry to safe machine polishing. That goes double when all you've ever done is hand apply your polishes and waxes, let alone trying to hand correct swirls from a large area - or a whole car.
It may look unconventional, and it may seem like it's not very ergonomic, but once you get a hold of it, you'll be pretty surprised at just how easy, comfortable and effective it is. At our last Thursday Night Open Garage of the year we pulled a couple of these tools out and let the guys play with them a bit. Here's a brief write up we did from that night:
We started out with the DA Power System using Ultimate Compound and the burgundy cutting pad....
....then moved to Ultimate Polish with the yellow polishing pad....
....and finally Ultimate Wax with the black finishing pad.
The left side is the untouched paint, full of swirls, the right side is after the three step process. The paint is darker, clearer, brighter, and almost totally swirl free. Is this tool a replacement for a DA? Of course not, but you're still terrified of a DA buffer, or you just can't manage the cost of acquiring one, this is a fantastic upgrade from hand application for defect removal.
So, we did the above with Ultimate Compound, Polish and Wax, which are the products we package with the pads in our "Power Packs", but you can use any paint cleaner, polish or wax you like with them. In fact, that same evening one of the guys used it with M101 on the badly oxidized hard top of his friend's Miata. This is the half and half shot we took before it finished it off - not too shabby for a drill applied process!
