Keep an eye on the Sunday ads, the big stores that carry computer stuff like CompUSA, Best Buy, Circuit City, or even OfficeMax often have really cheap drives with a rebate. CompUSA even has their own brand of made by Maxtor, I believe. I find that hard drive quality is hard to discern by your average computer user, so I wouldn't worry about making sure its "high end", like someone else suggested, just make sure you go at or above 7200rpm.
Never, ever shop for pc parts at Best Buy, Circuit City, or especially CompUSA unless you absolutely have to. Newegg.com is good, zipzoomfly.com (which used to be googlegear.com) is good too. By the by, just to plug some of my other favorite sites, xoxide.com, modthebox.com, pcpowerandcooling, coolerguys, dangerden.com (I bought all the stuff to run my watercooling setup from them), and directron.com are awesome sites if you want to check out some of the cool things you can do to make your pc a little cooler. I have had to call the Best Buy, Circuit City, and CompUSA guys on their BS to some of the customers too many times.
Also if you are intrested in learning about PC's or getting into some of the cooler stuff you can do on with yours check out these sites, Hardocp.com, forums.extremeoverclocking.com, guru3d.com, and anandtech.com. But stay away from Tomshardware.com, he is a paid Intel guy so he always compares the old AMD stuff to the brand spanking new Intel stuff.
Sorry for the long post, I just like building and modding PC's more than anything else I can think of.
