Mini Cooper S detail with Rasky

so if the brake dust is bad enough, even WB and IX won't get them back to 100%?

my wife's sister's BMW has possibly the worse rims I've ever seen (04 - bought new and never been detailed) and I've been chomping at the bit to have at them. Sounds like a real challenge

Wheel brushes were used, the pic of me wiping with a towel was touching up an area where water ran down after moving the car. ;)

Components of brake dust actually turn acidic when they get wet and the hot metal filings from hard braking can cut into the wheels finish, leaving tiny holes. These wheels had gone so long without being cleaned that the finish was compromised enough that IMO, no amount of cleaning was going to get them looking 100% new again. ;)
 
Great work fellas! I love the small things that come together to really turn the look around like the tips, the A pillars, and the license plate rust spots.

great work !! just wondering .. that PTG, do you find it to be reliable and worth it compared to the much pricier models ?? just curious because I need to get myself one but only do detailing work on the weekends and wouldn't need a high end gauge just yet .. thanks !!

For $225 it has been worth every penny IMO. It measured my test shims accurately and consistently and unless you're going for an Ultrasonic Gauge I see no real benefit over the $600+ units, other than maybe long term reliability...

I've had mine for over 3 years now and up until recently it's worked flawlessly. However it needs to be sent in now as it's been inconsistent lately and way off when going from steel to aluminum. Until I have the need and means for a $2400+ ultrasonic gauge, I'll be sticking with this unit. ;)

I recently detailed one of these. It was silver with black glossy stripes on the hood. The rest of the car came out nice, except for the stripes. I tried a few things but nothing worked. There were bird dropping stains and swirls galore. I'm beginning to think they can't be salvaged. Any suggestions?

At some point they are simply beyond repair and polishing too aggressively could damage them as well. I was able to improve the stripes on this car but they definitely didn't look like new.

I hit them a couple times with D300 and the MF pad but didn't want to push it.

KAIO is pretty mild and you should be able to get a little more aggressive with them than that. Maybe discus it with the owner and see if he's willing to let you push it more and if you rub through the top coat then he'll just have to replace them, which they need any way, so you really have nothing to loose unless he just wants to leave them as is.
