Door dings and paintless dent repair

Not sure if this is the right section or not but anyhow... My wife and I just bought a new 2012 Chevy Equinox. I washed it for the second time this past weekend and there was a door ding on the front passenger fender right behind the front tire. Piss me off. As much as I preach to my wife to park in the back forty in all parking lots she didnt and this is what happens. With my ocd which leads to detail fever this ding will drive me crazy. My question is have any off you tried the paintless dent repair where they massage it out from the back side? Also should I punish my wife? Thanks,

to quote Ralphie May; you can be right...or...you can be happy...pick 1..if you're gonna go the paintless dent repair route , call a couple used car managers and find out who they use, you don't want an inexperienced tech working on your ride..Ro
 
Yes, I use them for my Client's vehicles all the time. A good one can totally remove a ding so good, you cant even tell where it used to be at all. He/she just has to be able to get to the back of the ding with their little tools.
Up here they start out at somewhere north of $75 for the first one I think, and a little less for the 2nd one and on..

The only thing I would say about the parking issue is that no matter where she parks the car, some yay-who in a dang beater thing is going to park next to you. Its just how it works.. :)

I always try to park next to a really nice Mercedes, etc., if I have to park next to someone and hope they are careful with their car as I am when opening doors...

This is exactly what I do, seek out an open spot near a luxury car. Just make sure to do a once over on the luxury car! PDR starts at the same price in my area as well, $75/ding.
 
there are sometimes groupon deals for pdr.

as for parking, at work I look for spots where noone can park on my passenger side and I park front in. Most people at work park front in and usually do not have passengers so there is less of a chance that my driver side will be at risk. So far so good.

at the mall, it's a free for all. I go early and don't dawdle. Get my stuff and go...
 
A good tech. Is the key to PDR . Referrals are a must. A bad tech without years of experience can ruin your day.
You may have to polish after. The leveling peg used on the outside can marr. It is just part of getting it perfectly level.
Question the tech if he starts out wanting to drill anywhere. The best guys can do it without drilling for tool access.

Paintless dent repair is for real and a good tech will make the car look new. As mentioned by others, a good tech is the key. I was blown away with the results on my car. I bought an Audi with multiple dings, and they all went away with no sign they were ever there.

If you were that upset with your wife. She already was punished. Poor thing. Wife's should be treated like our most prized possessions. If they do not feel cherished, then you will not feel respected by them. I recommend flowers and an apology. Tell her she is infinitely more preciouse to you than the Equinox and the stupid ding.

Agreed! I wouldn't preach or punish regarding parking, or much else for that matter. I like my car clean and in good shape but I wouldn't let it become more important than a relationship.
 
At the end of the day it's just a car ... it can be repaired or replaced, unlike your wife.

If you can take a sensible educational approach and let her know that it is something that is important to you (avoid getting into a 'right way' vs 'wrong way' of doing things discussion) it will hopefully be productive. In this case it really isn't something that she did, someone else actually damaged the car, and that is beyond both of your control

I went through something similar with my wife not being aware of dragging her gym bag against my car in the garage, but after I showed her and explained it was something that was important to me, she is conscious to not scuff up my car.
 
The guy came and fixed the dent.Cant even tell it was there. $75. He said most wouldnt fix a dent that small. Oh well what can i say. I was only joking about the punishing my wife thing. I do think she will be more aware of where she parks from now on.

I'm glad to see that worked out for you. I have a few observations, even if you say you were joking. You mentioned that the PDR guy said most would not fix such a small dent....it would seem you are really obsessed. I have a few hail dings I have let go because the PDR guy wanted a bigger job. I have let it go and I'm ok. I found the experience very cathartic. Try it! And lastly, you can't blame the person who parked your car, blame the person who opened the door next to your car. It's not your wife's fault.
