Overspray Paint Removal

Beemerboy

Just One More Coat
This is a job that I did several years ago. I was going threw some pics and ran across these. The SUV was my next door neighbors, she hit a can of white stripping paint you can see the results.

I remove almost all of the paint using acetone, some lacquer thinner and APC. Then followed up with rotary using some light cut compound with a polish pad and finished with a orbital and polishing pad using PB P-w-C

It took me 7 hours to do the whole SUV on just the outside. I will tell you one thing, jobs like this are not for the faint at heart and a real test of a detailers ability.

All I can say is WOW! That is the worst road paint mess I've seen. That stuff is a a real pain.
Very nice turnaround!

You got that right! Especially that paint which is a PITA to remove because that stuff is made to stick on the road. Excellent work:bigups

The plastic was the harder part, this paint was only one day old when I started, that helped. Unlike this jet black 4x4 that I did with blue stripping paint that was on for months on end.

Great job on the Suburban! :bigups

All I can say is WOW! That is the worst road paint mess I've seen.

That stuff dries pretty fast, you'd almost have to be following the spray truck and pass while they're spraying to get that badly splattered. For people like that I assess an additional stupidity penalty in my rates.

Great work on both of those. Many many detailers would have turned both of those jobs down. I totally agree with you that jobs like these will test a detailers true ability. Its not always going to be a pretty day spend with an awesome car...some days just suck lol.

The acetone worked very well on it, took a lot of time thought. What I did was get a bucket of soapy water with some APC in it and the water hose next to me. Then with a cotton rag used the acetone to remove the OS, then wash the area and rinse. I worked in 12 x 12 inch areas, so I could keep control on the paint without running the chances of doing harm to the clear coat.

This IS the reason I posted these. For me doing a fairly new car with a few swirls is a cake walk.

Its jobs like these that (to me) show what you are capable of doing.

Just a beautiful, detailed, perfect paint removal and restoration there !!!!
I know what you mean, this kind of work will definitely separate the men from the boys quickly.
I dont get these too often, but there is always someone, somewhere, running through fresh road striping paint - even following closely the guy in the little 3wheeler behind the truck, who has given up trying to wave them away.

And as my amigo TL has said - "For people like that I assess an additional stupidity penalty in my rates." :)

Awesome work, thanks for helping the world of DWD's (Driving While Distracted) get through their daily lives ! :)

Thanks, in both cases these people hit the can itself and it exploded onto the car.

Awesome work, Dave! That's what I call "the mark of a true pro."

Just too bad you didn't shoot video with an HD camcorder and post it on YouTube.... ;)
