PC xp best option?

I can agree with this. Casing seemed less durable and yet it was smoother. I found myself picking up my rattly PCXP. But that is based on what I use them for. Lifetime warranty means nothing if I have down time.
It's like how the new Craftsman tool build quality. I can't keep returning wrenches even if they are free if I need them to work. GG was sold for
new PCXP.
 
Regarding the reliability and durability of the GG....

I've had my GG DA since it came out. I've not had any issues with the quality, reliability, or durability. It's worked flawlessly for me 100% of the time.
 
sounds like a toss up.. GG for power and Meg for feel and looks. time to flip a coin. I like the combo package here with the GG and pads for like 189 there is no combo with the Megs.

I never had issues just was a what if situation. The GG was like new. I just was concerned it could not handle the beating I gave the XP. I sold it for what I paid(had a good deal on purchase) when the XP after years died. It may be a case of my own worry of the unknown:).

This is just my opinion and I have no proof to back it up, but I wonder if some of the DA failures (GG, and others) are from too much pressure/load/stress. Since the KBM came out, it seems like everyone talks about all the pressure they use on the DA to do correction. To me, the DA can only do so much. Especially when you consider how tiny that spindle is compared to a rotary spindle. Obviously the DA's have come a long ways in the last few years, but I personally think people may be pushing them too much and expecting too much from them. I think it's the reason why there are so many DA failures in general these days.

I wasn't trying to single you out. Sorry if it came across that way (probably shouldn't have quoted your earlier response. Anyway, my opinion on DA failures was just a general opinion not meant for any one person here.

I don't think so. I've had my PC since 2005 and it's still going strong today. I've had my PCXP for about 2 years now and it's still going strong. My first 2 GG6's broke with in the first couple weeks of owning them. Both my PC's have done the Peter Pan off of my work bench and stool several times without issue, my GG unit fell of my work stand (about 30") and broke the outer housing as well as the internal structure the first time it fell.

A PM sent to me from another well know detailer discussing the GG quality...

Yeah, kinda figured. The machines are good but they dont seem to last. 3 went up in smoke. Pulled the back off and it looked like the comm in the electric motors failed. They were heavily burnt. The rest of the electrics were in tact. 1 was a bearing failure. The last was a replacement that griots sent me that went from speed three to six with no inbetween right out of the box. ****** has one in the shop that he has had since the came out with no issues. Thats the only one that is still going. Thank god for the lifetime warranty!

That's disappointing to hear about the lack of quality on the GG. I know the PC XP that I sold to a buddy of mine ended up breaking at the spindle not too long after I sold it to him and I know I've heard of other XP's doing the same thing since they've been out. That's what lead me to think the failures were related to the stress levels of the KBM.

Hard to say really with so many people using them with heavy pressure without any issue at all...it could just be that they all have a small percentage of acceptable failure rates and we only hear about it if they fail.
