Hello everyone, I just bought a Mazda cx9 yesterday and applied Opti Coat today. Four hours later while driving the 20% chance of rain became 100%. The instructions say it needs 12 hours to cure before wet. Anyone know if I ruined the coat? I really dont want to polish and reapply but will if it's not perfect. Thanks in advance..

You're coating should be fine. I know people that have washed their cars immediately after just to watch the water beading and they have had 0 problems.

Ease of application has to be a huge plus when selling products of this nature. If this stuff is ready to rock in an hour, why wouldn't the manufacturer print their instructions accordingly and get the marketing benefit of yet another great feature? Unless you were able to run these sets of circumstances side by side, with otherwise identical conditions, you would never know if durability might be compromised. Just sayin'...

It likely didn't have a chance to cure/crosslink or whatever todays term might be. It might still look good but the durability would be affected. You gotta know, you're responsible for the changing weather report, see the thread below.

I'm kiddin' of course.

I should have known better. I bought the truck last night. I woke up at 6 am to beat the heat. It was such a pleasure to work on new paint. I told the dealer not to touch it and they amazingly complied. Just as I finished my wife asked if I wanted to go on a short road trip. Forecast was for hot and clear. HAlf way to destination it starts sprinkling. Nothing hard but still frustrating. This is my 5th car to put Opti coat on. All the others were white or silver. The new car is black. I think I applied it a little thick bit it looked great. I keep getting new customers when they hear about a lifetime wax and see the cars I have done.

Chris from Optimum said that it is a precaution for water spots. He said that within an hour the coating should be dry enough. He said they just dont suggest it. It takes 3 months for the coating to fully cure btw. You think someone is going to wait 3 months to wash their car?

I would wait at least an extra hour as a precaution before driving or giving the vehicle back to a customer as a safety net of problems that might happen.

Thanks for the info. Has only been 3 weeks on the other cars but I am getting rave reviews..
