SSR1 Product Amount

Black G35
Been using the new SSR1 and each time I start with a fresh pad (doesn't even matter which one, Poorboys CCS White, Poorboys CCS Black, Poorboys flat Yellow) and I will put a ring of SSR1 around the entire pad. I spread the 2' X 2' section which the PC 7424 off, then turn it on speed 3 and spread it around more in the recommended path. Switch to Speed 6, use light pressure (about 3 on a scale of 1 to 10) and move very slow. Work it for about 3-4 minutes (never sure how long to work it, too long or too short?).

That First section usually turns out like glass and looks great but it seems every section after the first one doesn't achieve that glass like finish (looks like hazing in the path of the work pattern). After the first section I usually put that same full ring of SSR1 around the pad. It almost seems as though nothing is working after the first section. Am I using too much product or what else could be causing the slight hazing? I would post a picture but the Camera just does not pick up what I am seeing.

I would like to start with the pad selection ... SSR1 is a finishing polish for removing haze and very light swirls ... DO NOT USE a YELLOW pad ...it will cause marring with SSR1 ... with the White you may expect light marring due to the polishing ability of the pad itself, The Black would be your best choice to bring up a clean clear shine.

Amount of product should not be the biggest problem here as long as you work it long enough. If you stop early before the product is totally broken down, you may have marring also. Apply to pad as you have, tap the pad on the panel to be polished, start at speed 1 and move it around for a second or two and then straight to 5-6. Work until it is virtually gone and the shine is showing. it's hard to put a minute constraint as each vehicles paint is different with different levels of problems to remove.

Thanks guys - Too much product is the first problem I think and then as too much is on the pad, is there not enough heat to break it all down? When I spread the SSR1 around to start it looks like I just covered the section is wax and even when I work it for quite a while, it never seems to be almost gone like Steve says - which again leads me to think too much product.

I will use the black pad but as I said I got better results with a fresh yellow pad than I did with a white pad that I used for 8 sections or so.

When I am done with a section, how warm should the pad feel?

Thanks Again,

Oh Yeah and I will work it longer but how about the amount of pressure, is my 3 on a scale of 1 to 10 about right, more or less?

ok then it definitely sounds like too much product on the pad ... what brand of pads are you using? the yellow we are accustomed to is a cutting pad .. are you actually talking about the new Gold pad (yes very confusing :wall from Lake Country ) (and one reason we decided not to carry them ;) )
I do not apply pressure , i let the machine and products do the work. If you need to apply more pressure than just keeping a PC in control then you need a different combination of pad and product. :)

Thanks Steve, all my pads are poorboys which is why I found it odd that one section I did with the fresh yellow cutting pad had less haze than a section I did with the white polishing pad (that probablty had too much product on it) as I was now 8 sections into the car with the White pad. The yellow is the flat pad while the White and Black are the CCS pads.

I will use the poorboys black pad, just machine weight, less product and work till almost gone.

ok .. yeah that's the heavy cut yellow .. :wow: work it until you have to do a double take to see if there is any product left. When you get to that point, you can also stop the machine for a minute and feel the pad ..it should feel slightly damp but no real visible product.

You will love SSR1 when you figure it out. I've never had any problems with it and its worth the extra step IMO even if you don't feel the need to step down after SSR2

Thanks for all the help guys - Way too much product. Went with 3 pea size drops on the pad, used the pad brush after every couple sections, worked the product until almost gone and not much left on the pad.

What a difference, although I feel as though I should start over since I was using too much product with SSR 2.5 as well but that will be next time I guess.

Here is a picture of one panel after your tips.
