How to polish a Delorean? Stainless steel car

Is there any type of coating over the raw metal? Interesting, never really considered this, as the more you polish the more the brushed look would polish out. Seems like you would need to finish with some type of fine grit sand paper or fine steel wool, obviously making sure the strokes are directional.

The folks that now own DMC (all the parts and accessories, as well as doing restorations/sales/service) have a kit they put out:

From what it looks like they use something along the lines of a ScotchBrite pad to restore the brushed finish. I would probably contact them and ask some questions before just going after it with anything. My guess is you'd treat it like you would stainless steel appliances, so maybe even ABC Warehouse could help you out :lol2:

I've done a few over the years and used Pro Polish on them..they don't need a lot of attention

I remember reading about someone showing how to polish a Silver Streak camper trailer. They said you needed to polish a bit differently than polishing paint, but I didn't really delve in too much. I'd guess a search on steel polishing might turn up something. Then again, I'm not sure if a Delorean is meant to shine too much.

Well, its not really so much for the shine. The owner sold it to a guy (owner financing) guy waxed the car with regular wax and the car looks bad now. WHen the original owner got it back for non payment, I was asked to polish it. Not really to get a tremendous shine, but to make it look better than it does. Steve, Pro Polish with a PC?

pc is fine just go back and forth with tight over lapping passes so you don't leave streak, then do a wash

I guess bringing this car "Back from the Future" it can really get dirty... I couldn't resist.

I saw this guy at an RV show polishing one of those Airstream (silver bullet) campers. He was the head detailer at the show. He was using a combination of WD-40 and Windex. He would first spray on the WD-40 and then spray over that with some Windex, wipe it off with a microfiber rag and it shined, also gave it the extra petroleum base for protection. He recommended doing this every 3-4 months.
