This is the thing i am confuse about i have a backplate for my dewalt is a 6.5" with a 8" foam pad but i dont quite get at ALL the paint correction i am looking for so therefore i thought if i go smaller in my backplate it would be betterAutogeek hands down. I like a 6 in plate for my rotary but rarely use it because I work on large vehicles and prefer the 8 in pads for them. As for pads the options are endless and it really comes down to personal preferance. I've had great luck with LC CCS pads. I would look into Poorboys for glaze, polish, sealant, etc. Wolfgang 3.0 is a great sealant too.
I just measure my BP it saids 6 1/2 so it would be a 6.5 right?? and i was looking to buy the custom combo of 6 LC 6.5 pads to use with the BP i mention i have am i doing something right???we use 6" backing pads with 6.5" pads for most work and 4" pads for spot work. I like CCS and VC, many get great results with the Foamed Wool.
If your not getting the correction your looking for it's more likely due to the products rather than your pad size. If you want to go really small, try the LC 4 3/4 inch plate with 5 or 5 1/2 inch pads. I think that's as small as I would go with an 849.
now idk how to inserts my pics i took i am new to this!!The 6 1/2 inch plate that's on your machine may not be suitable for CCS pads if it's a 3M. If it's like mine the outside edge of the plate is angled slightly and made of rubber, and is made for 7 and 8 inch rotary pads. I wish I had my machines and pads here at home because I would throw a CCS pad on my rotary and post a pic of what I'm talking about. Basically, you want your pad to be a bit bigger than the plate. It's pretty common for DA polishers to run a 6 inch plate with 6 1/2 inch pads for example.

i was thinking in playing it safe of getting a 5" BP Heavy dutyThanks for posting the pics up. The smallest pad I would run on it is 7 inch. If you want to run 6 1/2 inch pads your going to need a 6 inch plate or else your running a huge risk of the plate getting into something and doing damage to the vehicle your working on. Something to keep in mind when ordering a plate is to make sure your getting one for a rotary rather than a DA because they are different.
This would be your best bet but don't get the DA plate because it won't work on a rotary. LC 4 3/4 inch rotary plate is what you need for 5.5 pads.never mind how about getting da heavy duty 5" BP with 5.5" LC the smaller they go the cheaper it is
