Greetings all...My name is Tom and I've been "considering" starting my own detail business. I'm 42 and just "burnt out" being a traveling equipment mechanic for who knows how many years!!! My body is just getting worn out working on Heavy Equipment.
I have no "formal" learning or education via employment of auto detailing. I have always maintained my own and family members cars since I was 14 (now 42). Always got compliments and have been told numerous times to go into business...but earning $30.00hr over the past several years from my employer..was just eaisier to do!
Well now...I getting ready to make that leap into the SELF EMPLOYED world! While generating $$ is a necessity...I'm willing to make/take a drastic cut in my current income just to get away from laying on my back out in the weather (Rain/Sleet/Snow) fixing equipment.
I can see that this forum is a wealth of knowledge and will be exploring all the nooks and crannies!
I live in a pretty wealthy part of the country (Fairfield County CT) and home that plays into my favor!
I DO NOT plan on having a "commercial" location at this time. I would perfer to work out of my home (2.5 car heated/aircon garage with floor drain) as well as combine MOBILE service at customer locations as well.
Start-up capitol is of no issue..My concern is getting educated on the proper way to use the equipment, application of chemicals...ect.
Well...that's it for now...time to map out a business plan!!
