I knew two people that worked for UPS. I was told they paid very well but they did make you work very hard.

I have also heard they (UPS) pay pretty well and have good benefits for even thier part-time employees. I also heard that as loaders you are expected to work at a pretty hectic pace but their goals are evidently acheivable.

Yea, from my personal expierence it was insane. The moment you clocked in you went straight to work. There wasn't 5 minutes of goofing off on a 6 hour shift. And when I say work I don't think the majority of you could grasp what I'm saying. For 6 hours straight(2 10 minute breaks) you would be looking at a conveyour belt of 2,000+ different size boxes heading your way :yikes:

When that plane was full, you moved to the next 5 that were waiting on you so they could get back up in the air assout:

Not only was the constant lifting a PITA, but you also had to know exactly how to keep the weight equally balanced. You probally would only have less then 2 seconds per box and that included how to stack it :crazy2:

It was not only manually drooling but mentalelly as well. Then you top that off A$$hat telling you your not moving fast enough :rant:

Well, that is a recipe for disaster for your shipment :chop

I did 7 years at Big Brown as a part time employee and in various supervisory roles. The problem is that the part time employees that do the loading are union employees. The union has bred a terrible attitude at UPS. They cannot get fired. Seriously. There has to be theft or violence in the workplace before you will get canned and the union will not touch it. I have TONS of stories that will disgust you. I have zero respect for unions after that place. And you are right, they are terribly slow. The are the most expensive and the least efficient out of the group of UPS, FedEx and USPS.

I guess everyone has a story to share either pro or con on unions and I'm no different. I represent over 100 over the road drivers at a major LTL trucking company at which I also drive. We are the same as non-union companies when it comes from drawing our members from the available work force.We have a few bad apples the same as any other company. Union companies have learned over the years how to deal with those that need to move on and cause problems elsewhere. The free pass anything goes is a thing of the past as companies learn how to deal with contracts and work rules.You will find exceptions but it's becoming a more level playing field all of the time.
With what happened to your shipment can happen at any carrier.With that being said , I feel if you contact UPS Customer Service and explain what transpired that you may be taken care of.Remember that the squeaky wheel gets the grease.Companies nowadays know that without customers , they won't survive.
