Rasky's Auto Detailing: Black Evo IX

a few q's and statements here

first off SICK JOB as ALWAYS !

i dont know if its me or anything but is that long really needed on a car so new ?

and is there anyway some of the steps could have been tweaked to save time and achieve the same result ?

about how much finish on the paint did you feel you had to remove to get to the final result ??? a brothers friend has a pontiac G5 coupe with about as bad as paint as this and it is black which makes it even worse im wondering how i could cut some time to get rid of his deep swirl problem ...

4-6 passes with a 6.5 orange pad with M105 wow i am impressed i cant wait to use my combo with the PC ...

and again i thinkj i have the same halogen yellow tripods i just bought this past week

yada yada yada i think thats all

and GOOD JOB ! (y)

First off, thank you!

Could this job have taken less time? Sure. But when the owner dropped it off he said he just wanted it to look as good as I could possibly make it. So he was not like the average customer I see. Also know that the age of a car has nothing to do with how much time should be spent on a car. I've seen 6 month old car look like they were 10 years old! :(

My first test panel was with M105 and an orange LC pad. This combo looked very good and would have likely allowed me to get away with a 2-step buff on most customers cars. However there were still some of the deeper scratches remaining that I know I could safely remove.

By going with the wool pad I was able to quickly, and safely remove the deeper defects. IMO wool pads are easier to use and safer since they generate less heat vs. a foam cutting pad. The down side is that process left the finish with some swirls of its own. I tried following that up with a white LC and M105 but after an IPA wipe down some of the swirls still remained. The orange LC was simply a better choice for removing the swirls left behind by the wool pad.

The M205 finished off the car swirl free with the white LC and would have been perfect for most customers...but the owner wanted more. He probably wouldn't have noticed the slight difference that jewelling with UF added to the paint, but I did. :inspector:

While I may have removed a measurable amount of clear with this process, I feel I was well within the safe zone. There were also several deeper RIDS that remained.

Hope this helps,

Rasky :howdy

Nice job again the black paint is gleaming.:D Not my first choice in wheel color but WOW are they clean.

Again I wish you were closer and could do my stuff, very nice work...:winner:

was there any difference using 3M Ultrafina (UK) after 205?

I hear that 205 finishes flawlessly. Similar to fine menzerna polishes.

I stuck between menz and megs, don't know what to order.

Keep up the good work! Evo looks sick!

On this car, yes. But it was a very subtle difference. I have had several cars where I saw no improvement by following M205 with UF.

I personally like the Megs M205 better than the Menzurna as I feel it's a more versatile polish. I will keep them all in my arsenal though. ;)
