1999 windstar Exterior Only - Pics Comming Soon

RyansAutoDetail

Weekend Warrior
I just did the hood earlier with the following process:

wash Megs GC
clay Mothers Kit w/ Showtime Detailer
Poorboys SSR 2.5
Poorboys Pro Polish
Optimum Spray Car Wax
Megs UQD

most of the hood was covered in stone chips, deeper scratches that 2.5 couldnt get out and i know i need some super heavy duty compound for the whole car but it definately felt as smooth as glass and i got some good reflections while the sun was still up but not up for enough time to get pics today so i will do so tomorrow when i am done.

i might just do the whole car in 2.5 maybe not cuz i dont really want to go spending a ton more money on a heavy duty compound that i will only need like 10% of the time right ... but then again i dont want to waste all my 2.5 before using it on customers cars and not getting paid off of it LOL . :wall

One thing I found when battling the water spots on my truck was that a heavy compund used lightly by hand (i.e. SSR 3 with a terry cloth and light pressure) worked very well on isolated spots. I followed it up with Meg's 105 and 205 and it did a heck of a fine job removing some of the spotting. I imagine something like that might help using it on some the deeper scrathces you're talking about.

ok so i did the whole van in SSR2.5, menzerna finishing glaze and topped with the last of my eagle one wax as you dry spray and sprays of megs UQDT as well, hopefully with the polished paint i can get some good protection from the last of my eagle one as i have to go to work now, pics will be up later tonight after my shift !!!

and let me tell you after claying the whole car which had never been clayed before it turned the yellow almost all greyish black and nasty looking lol .. i took pics of that too !

edited process, pics are up !

the total time was about 4 hours so i think if i charged $85-95 for exterior polish/wax that would then bring an absolute detail price to about $165.00 for 8-9 hours of work including polishing. 165 is still cheaper than alot of shops in my area to my knowledge ...

should i have used pro polish before the glaze ?

i dont really know if the polish or an ssr1 would have added any last ditch efforts here ... but please tell me im looking for all i can get info and help wise !

Poorboys SSR 2.5 one pass at 3 and one pass at 5.5 on orange light cutting pad

The pass on 3 won't do much. Turn it up to 6 and have at it!

very nice. but you need a step down between the 2.5 and finishing glaze

Agreed! SSR1 or PP should be used after 2.5.

It will clean it up and bring up the gloss. Use a white LC pad. Make sure that you are breaking down the polishes completely.

yeah lol i will kick it to the top speed next time :)

yeah i have pro polish and i do use the white pad for it so i guess i have that step down, but i was wondering if its possible to use pro polish on the orange pad at all ? it basically says it can do the same as the ssr but not as strong right so could i use a cutting pad at all ?

When i worked the polish in i went slow horizontally then did a vertical pass with a third quick horizontal pass and once it starts dusting up the polish has done its job and gets hazy looking and almost stuck on the paint surface, how much more could i break the polish down ? ? ?

very good advice (above) The van looks good though...Keep it up:bigups

and yes i am taking very many notes so i can perfect the methods on my first paying customers car i get to polish :D ! im excited to do another one !

one thing i noticed was the paint was so clean it squeaked when i buffed off the excess polish after application.

my guess is if it squeaks u know u did a good job ? ? right ?

Why would you want to? You "can" use any pad/product combo that you want to, but a lot of them will not work together very well. In this situation, you are trying to refine the paint surface, so you don't want to use a cutting pad. The pad doesn't have the ability to finish out very well, so even though the PP can, the pad will limit it's potential. A white LC (or even softer black or gray) pad would be a good match for the PP.

If you are just talking about another situation, then I guess you could try it, but I would just step up to the 2.5 if you want some "cut".

I'm not saying that you didn't, but a lot of people make the mistake of not breaking it down completely and their results suffer from it. You should be working small sections (2' x 2'). A lot of people will try to do half of a hood at one time. That's too much area to cover.

Hmmmm.....it's been a long time since I used a PC, but I would make multiple horizontal and vertical passes in one section before the polish would break down completely. When it does, it goes "clear" and leaves very little residue on the surface. It shouldn't feel "stuck" on the surface either. I never really had the dusting issue, but I know others have. IIRC, it's from using too much product. Hopefully Steve will be along shortly and can give you some insight on that. Or, you can just shoot him a PM.

Very Good Ryan:bigups
I'm always holding my breath when someone mentions they have a youtube video they want me to view. But I thank you got the point across.....You sure do use alot of Stuff:rofl

I have to agree with this ^^^^^

you can spread the 2.5 at 3 , but it needs to be at 5-6 for the rest of the polishing ...by using it at low speed it will leave marring and not break down correctly, thus leaving dust ;)

followed by PP or SSR1 will bring out great clarity and gloss, again at speeds of 5-6 with a pc :)

the pictures do look good though :rockon
