First ever engine detail! CD-2

I've never detailed an engine and my 2004 E46 has never experienced one in the time I've owned it, or ever... Well I found Cd-2 about a month ago and have been waiting for the day I could give it a try! Expecially after reading about it for over 6 months, now! So, today was the day to learn stuff! I learned to change my oil by myself... no husband needed, then detailed the engine. Here are my results... advice appreciated to better next time!
First I had to get some grit off by a very light wash with soapy water and light spray dry. (there was sand from previous owner and wanted to get that off. ) Then light dry with husbands air hose (again VERY LIGHTLY). Allowed to dry, then Cd-2 for over an hour, while I closed the hood and washed the car. Ended with a very light whipe down (I just had to touch it!and whipe it off!! Just in my nature...) Here are the results!

Beats paying the shop 90 somthing to do it... I do use a mittyvac which makes it really easy, but next time will put it on the ramp and do it the regular way.

In another post it is stated that the Cd-2 is not necessary, but for the price, speed and nice finish I feel it is worth it for me. :bigups

Are you changing the oil filter as well?
It is something that should be done and is another DIY project.

Changing your own oil is not a big deal to many, but to those that have never done any car maintenance, it can be somewhat intimidating.:bigups:bigups

FWIW, oil, lube & filter with a 12 point inspection is about $30 for our Hondas and our Pontiacs at the dealer.
Synthetic oil adds about $15 to that cost.
 
Yes... I change the filter too. That is really simple on our BMW... Filter is right there! Takes about 20 min total with the mittyvac! and just a few paper towels!!:yay
 
One reason why Porsche owners also change there own oil, COST! Go to the dealer and get hit with big $$ for a simple oil change.

CD-2 for engine detailing does work well. One product that never did work well was meguiars Engine Kote. Damn stuff smells and looks like floor wax. More like a product from the old days called Jubilee.

The same reason I change the oil on my F250.The dealership and quick lube places want $110- $140,I do it for $67 and 15 minutes of my time.
The beast holds almost 4 gallons and now I'm thinking of switching to synthetic.
It'll still be cheaper that the dealership.

I gotta get some cd-2 from somewhere I love the look.

You guys are missing the point on the dealer oil changes. If you do it yourself you never get the added benefit of the dealer stripped drain plug.:D
 
I'm ready for that too!!! I ordered 2 drain plugs from my last order from autohauz just in the event myself or my husband strips one when doing the oil change without the mittyvac. They are realy boogers to find for a BMW in the country!! Autozone i dont think carries them and the nearest bmw dealership is over an hour away!!
 
It's quite a bit more cost when you drive a Porsche though. I've got a friend with a 998 Turbo and he said it is at least $120 at the dealership for an oil change. He also said that his car doesn't have a dipstick because Porsche wants to make it so that you can't change your own oil. I told him that there was a dipstick right there behind the steering wheel whenever he was driving it, but he didn't laugh. :lol I don't know if it is true that you can't check the oil in the 998, but that seems to be a little stupid if it was designed that way. I'll just stick with my nice cheap and easy oil changes on my Corolla. lol Nice and easy to change.

Great engine detail, BTW. I am CD-2 Engine Detailer's biggest fan and the pictures you posted are exactly the reason for my enthusiasm.

You mean a 997 Turbo. There is no 998... YET!:D

Yes, there is no dipstick per se, but and electronic one. You have to be parked on level ground (duh) when engine is warm, not running then hit the stalk on the left to check the level via the center display under the tach. If the level is one bar below top, it's good.

There are many owners who change their own oil. Very simple as other oil changes, just need the right parts (oil filter insert, O-ring and new crush washer for the drain plug) Drain as normal, clean oil filter housing, install new O-rings and install filter. Install new crush washer and torque to specs. Fill with oil (Mobil-1). Remove fuel pump relay/fuse and then spin engine via starter to gain oil pressure. Then reinstall relay/fuse and start engine, let it come to temp and check level.

Sure, it's easy to change most other cars oil, but with a Porsche, you just need the parts, tools and proper ramps and stands.

Dealers get big $$ for Mobil-1. First time I had a dealer do my Porsche, I asked where the Waterford Crystal decanters the oil came in as I'd like to have them. They didn't find that funny.

997 Turbo is a fun car to drive. The new GT2 however, now that's a real sick Porsche!:bigups:bow

I wish CD-2 was more plentiful as it's a great product, just difficult to find locally.

The Auto Zone stores in our area seem to have it in stock regularly.
It isn't kept with the appearance items.
It is with the engine degreasers and additives in most AZ stores I have been in.
