Weekend Warrior
finally had some time this afternoon to test out the mothers clay bar kit consisting of the following used after washing with meguiars gold class car wash:

yellow mothers clay cut in half and saved for another time and i only used half a bar and should last about 6-10 cars worth of clay jobs

showtime instant detailer/lubricant

liquid cleaner carnauba wax AWESOME !

YOUTUBE POST VIDEO LINK --YouTube - MOTHERS Clay Bar Paint Restoration Kit/Cleaner Wax

ok first step i thoroughly washed with megs gold class

clayed with liberal use of the instant detailer probably used about 30% of the damn bottle cuz it was warm outside

then by hand applied a pea sized amount of wax per panel on MF applicator pad and distributed evenly on the pad before applying the wax liquid, left to haze on the paint for approx 1 minute as it was kinda warm to the touch so it didnt take long to haze over.

dried off with a vroom MF towel from target in the states where i bought most of my stuff from and the mothers kit from meijer for 13.99, HERE ITS PRACTICALLY DOUBLE THE PRICE !

pics below and proof is in the pudding .. cheers ! after 1.5 hours i need some beers

ENJOY

People often say that pictures can be misleading, but the car sure looks terrific to me.
A good example of what can be done with OTC products.

thanks for the comments ive waited almost all week to get a chance to try this on either my dads car or a friends, going to be doing this system to my brothers friends 07 Pontiac G5 this comming weekend. same process !

who needs to buy non OTC products when all you have to do is use the product properly !

That is quite true, especially with an almost new vehicle, but.....
At some point in time you will find that you will need/want a product a little more specialized than a cleaner/wax.
There again, there are several good OTC products that serve that purpose.
There are also several very good so called "boutique" products that really excel at doing what they are intended for.
Over the years, I have gotten more and more into the "boutique" stuff and it has done a good job for me under a lot of conditions.
Whatever you use, use it correctly and often and you can have a vehicle that really stands out from the norm.

this is the first time i have clay and liquid hand waxed a car so for first try results are pretty good yes, and i realize on older cars with more surface contamination it is a must to get a PC or similar machine polisher to buff and apply paste waxes to get a better finish, but with such a new car obviously the need for a machine is minimal, and will vary from vehicle to vehicle.

on a side note what is a good price for including this process with a full interior detail/shampoo package, ive been charging 65 for a whole car but only used a spray wax for a last step and sure it lasts like 2 weeks but this wax today should last a few months right ? i was thinking upwards of $75 to $80 isnt too unreasonable i would think ?

The PC or something similar would be a good investment.
If you are planning on doing this professionally, learning to use a rotary would be very beneficial.
What takes me 20 minutes to correct, someone with rotary experience will handle in 2 minutes.
Some marring is very difficult if not impossible to correct with the PC. The rotary does it with ease.
The drawback is that the rotary can cause damage just as quickly if you don't know how to use it correctly.

One comment you made about "paste" wax being needed I don't agree with. A liquid wax will do a great job and look every bit as good as a paste wax.
They both have their place.

well my comment was only made in response to what "hearsay" I have heard about pastes being > than liquids in most aspects of a full polish quality i guess, but liquids can work well too !

Not bad at all, did you do any correction work before you wax? Just wondering, looks great! :bigups

none at all just washed with megs GC, clayed and right to the cleaner wax, all in one paint restoration kit from mothers, well worth the 14 USD or 25.89 CAD
but i got it in the states for damn near half our price here at crappy tire !

Nice work on the car..and the use of OTC products.....one thing..who's the geek in the reflection in the car?

yes i am an auto geek at heart but i do it well whatever it is on a car i have done it, auto glass, repairs, auto parts business, factory work, detailing etc ive done it all and am passionate about cars as barry meguiar would say car crazy hahah

Barry who? :D Isn't he the guy that makes mold release products? Seriously though, nice job. To wash, clay and wax a car in 1.5 hours if moving. Keep working on it and you'll be able to get to the 5 minute wash club (inside joke). There's no way I could get as many cars out of a clay bar as you are proposing. I get maybe 3 out of a typical Mother's bar. My cars must be dirtier. ;)

OTC can look good. I was worried you could scratch the paint by sliding the bottle over it since accidents can happen.

nah i made sure the bottom of the bottle was flat before attempting this video as i saw someone doing very similar with another product on youtube so i figure id take a shot, the surface is way too smooth to scratch with that demonstration.

nice job ...if i had to use otc stuff except one specialty product ...i have to have my p.c. with edge 2k pads...other than that its possible to do nice work .. i like high end stuff mostly for easy on/ off and gallon pricing :bigups

well it does help to have a new car to test a product on but the results will differ on an older vehicle for sure unless there is paint restoration (buffing with PC or similar) done prior to waxing obviously. but there wasn't a need to do the above on this car just a simple "hand job" will do this hahah

I guess you will learn the hard way.
