Polishing Question

OK... I finally got everything I need, including the time, and plan on polishing the nasty dealer car wash scratches out of my brand new car this weekend. I will either be using Zaino Z-PC or Menzerna IP & Micro Polishes. Either way, I plan on following it up with several coats of Z-5 and then a topping of Z-2 as I usually do on my cars.

Question is, should I do an alcohol rub down after the polish or wash it again. Or maybe both or neither. Any help on this is appreciated. Any procedure help is wanted. :)

Thank you!!!

I am assuming the rub down you are talking about is to eliminate dusting caused by polishing? If I get any heavy dusting I either just blow it off with my compressor or use a QD and an MFT...no need to re-wash, chances are in the re-wash/dry stage you could re-introduce new siwrls to your freshly polished paint.

Better wash well, clar with lube, then do the polishing, followed by paint sealant, and finnally a great noncleaning carnuba wax. For a new to you vehicle always clay it before polishing, you wont beleive how uch you the clay will pick up. Randal

I have always done the Z-5 and then the Z-2 and that is all. Are you saying I should place Carnuba Wax over all of this? If so, any reccomentdations? I have read that Moose Carnuba was excellent for black cars.

You can top a sealant with a Carnauba type wax, some believe that it will give you the advantages of both...

Well it depends on how much you want to spend, on black paint, Nattys Red or Pinnacle Souveragn look great on that color.

It depends if you plan on following Zaino detailing techniques or put them aside. Zaino llikes to use a synergistic approach to their line. Meaning anything other than a Zaino product will mitigate its ability in both clearity and durability. If you follow their line of thought an alcohol wipe down would be suggested if using a non Zaino product prior to the Zaino sealanats.

With the products that you listed I would use the Menzerna product after a claying then clean up the surface and burnish the paint with ZPC. Then apply the Zaino sealants. Thus avoiding an alcohol wipedown.

The addition of a non cleaning carnuaba is strictly an eye of the beholder option. I would suggest doing a side by side comparison to see if you can tell a difference. If you can... see and feel.... a difference then by all means do it. Just remember that Zaino sealants do not bond well to carnuabas and a good AIO(I like Zaino's AIO because the use of ZFX is not needed for application of one layer of sealant. I have used Klasse AIO with good results as well but then I needed Z1 or ZFX to properly apply the next layer of Zaino sealants.) should be employed prior to the addition of another coat of Z2Pro or Z5Pro for proper bonding.

I don't remember what Zaino products you have on hand.
If you have Z-AIO or Z-FX, then I would stick to the Zaino routine.
Z-PC to remove the marring, Z-AIO for the cleaner/prep and Z-5 PRO and Z-2 PRO after that.
I'm not a Zaino fan, but you may need to use either the Z-FX or the Z-AIO after polishing with the Z-PC.
I don't think you have to use both, just one or the other.
It seems like a call to their customer service department would be a good idea.
Personally, if Zaino was my LSP, it would be my LSP. No topper waxes. I think they do have a product Z-8 that is recommended for bringing out even more pop after the Z-2 PRO.

To me, the alchol rub-down just sounds like a way to put back some of the flaws you just removed. :dunno:
