Which Sealant would you go with for winter prep?

Seeking the perfect shine
I live in Arkansas....granted, winter prep isn't as crucial here as in say......Conneticut or New York. However, cooler weather isn't conducive to detailing....so, I'm looking for something that will protect the paint, and look good with minimal effort (Washes when possible and Rinseless Washes like QEW & S&W). Most sealants make cleaning a lot easier.

I've got a nice little stock of sealants, and was wondering which of these you'd suggest for winter prep:
Wolfgang, Ultimate Paint Protection, and Poorboy's EX-P.
I have Klasse AIO and SG, but I don't really like "Plasticy" the look of SG. So, which of these would you choose to protect until Spring? Probably going to go w/ around 3 layers of one.

*Let the keyboard detaling begin! :bigups

Which of those 3 sealants do you guys feel is most durable?

Personally, I'd go with either the Wolfgang or the EX-P topped with a couple of layers of your favorite carnauba. I find that combo works really well with the weather down here.

I really like PwS but for stand alone, Wolfgang's Deep Gloss Sealant. Carnauba looks and 4+ months durability. Stays very soft and slick for a long time.

I have been using Blackfire and have found it has good protection and it gives a really nice deep glow. Not like carnuba, but close. Plus its incredibly easy to use.

Even though I love the look of WG I don't feel that it holds up as well as the PB.

For my winter Prep I went with EX x2 and topped with Nattys x3

4 Star UPP is one of my favorites. Topped with AquaWax, it's hard to beat on both looks and "durability." Durability being very, very subjective. But I do have the owner's number on speed dial and he told me..... :)

Ok, someone in every thread has to play the part of Zaino fanboy, so I guess it will be me. I like a couple coats of Z-2 or Z-5 Pro, plus one wipedown with Z-CS, and Z-CS for winter maintenance when possible. I haven't tried any Wolfgang products, but the Zaino sealants' longevity far surpasses 4Star UPP, Klasse SG, and Blackfire.

I am not impressed at all with the appearance of Z-2 and Z-5 Pro alone on my dark gray metallic Acura. It was very shiny, but did not have the rich, deep, darker appearance that it had with Blackfire. However, Z-CS improved the appearance a lot, darkening the color, and adding some missing richness and depth.

I do like Opti-Seal......a lot. I like that it can be used with any other LSP too with no cure time. Easy as heck to use and very concentrated.....done over 30 cars with half a bottle.

I lucke up and found some of Meguiar's M98 Medalion Paint Protection. Supposed to be very good since it's not VOC-compliant. We will see. I have enough for two samples if anyone wants some. Let me know.

I used that product for over 10 years and was very happy with it except for the one problem I have had with most Meguiar's products.
White residue.
I learned to work around that problem, but I much prefer not having the problem.

I know it. I hate that residue too. When I used 16 on the NSX detail, I was remided of it! Oh well. Menzerna dusts some and I've gotten over that.

i like cg's blitz sealant, it can be layered, i use 2-3 coats, it's super easy to use, then layer with your fav. carnuba.:bigups

Well....I Tried out EX-P for the first time. The reason I went w/ EX-P is b/c I wanted to try something I hadn't tried, it had to be something I already owned, and I wanted to try WG's Finishing Glaze. I like how EX-P went on. I used the PC with a Beige pad....laid 3 thin stripes of the sealant on the pad, spritzed with S&W and went to town. This was the 1st sealant that I'd used w/ the PC, and I must say that I LOVE using the PC for this! It makes it SO quick and easy to apply. I applied the coats with 12-24 hrs between them (the car was inside the whole time--a few people said the 12 hr cure time would be ok).

The car was in a garage for a few days as my Mom was out of town and wanted me to drive her car. So....I suffered from that all-too-common detailer's problem: The "Just ONE more coat" disorder! LOL....I had a 4 oz bottle of EX-P and was able to BARELY get 4 coats out of it...but I did.

Now, debating on a carnauba topper...but I like the look & the slickness of the EX-P by itself!

I have considered trying 2 layers of Natty's (1 Red & 1 White) as per Rabbi's suggestion.

I'm one of the New Yorker's you refer to that has to prepare for a REAL winter season and the salt joy that accompanies it and I use 3 layers of Collinite #476 after doing thorough surface prep.

Been using 476S for the last 3 winters and, though the height & roundness of the beads is diminished, it will last about 4 months & still bead. I wand wash frequently (rinse only, so soap) and bucket wash when I can.

I guess we've opened this up to whatever sealants everyone uses.

I had ORIGINALLY wanted everyone's opinion on which of the ones I listed:

EX-P, Wolfgang, or UPP

Then again....I guess I'm finding out about some other approaches to prep. And yeah....I guess Arkansas winters are more like a NY Fall or Spring.

I listened to ya...:notme:

Plus you also have SG in there ..

which you can still space in between the EX-p if you wanted to.:yourrock

me too :D

But just in case it got lost in the sauce.
UPP, I haven't tried.
Between the WG and the PB. I feel that the PB is more durable, but you may get more mileage w/ a less severe winter.

I also enjoy to top with a carnauba.

Why mess with something you are already happy with?
With just the EX-P, you could add a fresh coat on a nice day during the winter. That would refresh the look & slickness you are happy with.
Once you add the carnauba topper, that option is gone.

You did get several suggestions about what products on hand to use and it looks like the choice has been made.
But..... If you still feel you need to add something, try some Dura Gloss Aqua Wax. Cheap, easy, fast, looks good and I have added more sealant over it with no apparent problems.
There again, it is almost as easy to just throw on some more EX-P every 4 to 6 weeks. If you stick with the one product, you definitely shouldn't have any compatibility problems.

Another combination that you could have tried, and still could when you feel something more is needed, would be the Klasse AIO topped with 4 Star UPP. That is a great combination that I used for several years. (And may use again one of these days.:))
It probably is OK to put the UPP directly over the EX-P and if it is, you don't have to buy any more product for this winter. (Sorry Steve :D)
My use of UPP was limited mostly to either using it over Klasse AIO or adding it over a previous application of UPP. Very slick and looks great.
