She'll Buff Out
So i bought my new car which is black. It came from a auction and they love to just buff the hell out of them and not take out the swirls (not to mention burned my car in 5 diff spots). I did my usual process for black. It normally comes out flawless but not this time. They really swirled it up bad. So my question is for you black car owners/ detailers. What process do you use on bad black cars. Products and pad combo.

Heres what i did-
Wash
Already been buffed so i skipped that.
Presta swirl remover/light cutting pad
XMT SR 3/polishing pad
Ultracoat polish/finishing pad
3M dark glaze/ finesse pad
Topped with Max Wax

Did all this and i still see very minor swirls but they are still there. I would like to see them go away.
I like to here what works for everyone else.

How many passes did you try with the XMT SR3 and following polishes? Multiple passes are sometimes needed. If they are only minor at this point, you might want to try another round with another medium or light cut polish.

I did about 4 to 5 passes with XMT SR3. Like you said a good polish would get them out this point, im actually putting in a order right now for some PB SSR1, 2, and 2.5 Most the polishs i have are finishing polishes and dont have enough cut.
 
Not to rain on your parade, but I think your paint has had quite a little working over already.
1. Buffed at the auction. Probably with a rotary and some pretty aggressive compound.
2. Swirl remover by you. Also with a rotary, right?
3. XMT by you. Rotary again?
4. Ultra Coat Polish by you. Rotary?

Keep in mind the fact that some paint has been removed by each of those processes.
Shiny paint with a few swirls might be better than no paint. :)

I just did the Presta swirl remover with rotary, everything else with a pc just for that reason.

i have to agree ...some shiny paint with a few swirls is better than no paint and if you already see signs where it's been burned through:wow: be careful. I'd also suggest only using polishing and finishing pads, stay away from cutting pads whether you are using the PC or rotary ;)
 
For me with black it depends on the car but one thing that stands true with all of them is...you can't beat yourself up over a few minor swirls.....its the nature of the color...at least that's what I think...The steps that you have taken seem right to me...there might be some areas that could use some wet sanding, but you want to be real careful with that...One step that you might want to add to your process is a glaze with fillers in it....reason is it can mask those minor swirls...I do it all the time on my car.....That's my take on your black car
 
BLACK SUCKS......

Now that said.. when working on my neisis I tried to skip a step... WOOWWOOOW nope is looked like xxxx... place is a heavy(already done for you)
medium 2.5
light 1.0(i like FPII for this..)

I was thinking the same thing when I read it...I believe he works like three days straight (like not leaving kind of straight) at the Fire Department...maybe being over tired...

But the first time I saw it I thought I missed some new acronyms...:D

I had the same thoughts about the acronyms...read it about 4 times then figured it was a special language:bigups
