Help with weird stains/marks (w/pics)

There are two stain marks that appear to be beneath the clear coat as the surface is smooth. They are located on the lower driver`s door where road grime and dirt kick up. I`ve tried some basic scratch remover and clay bar but they made zero difference. They look like they could be rust, but I don`t know if that`s it. No other marks around the car like this. Any idea what I could do or use to remove it?

Did you try a tar remover, mineral spirits, etc., on a Q-tip on those spots ??

I have not. But I appreciate the suggestion. I know I don`t have that remover, but I think I have a little bit of mineral spirits left.

EDIT* Turns out I don`t have mineral spirits. But I did have denatured alcohol left. It didn`t do anything.

I don`t have any magnifiers on hand.

Someone mentioned trying Iron-X. I have a small bottle on order to see if that does the trick. Will report back.

UPDATE: Iron-X didn`t do anything.

Did you get any color changing from the IronX?

If not it`s not a rust problem you are haveing. Has it been this way since you bought the car or has it happened when you have owned it? It seems almost like a repair where they have used some kind of clearcoat to cover it. Or it`s a damage in the paint that`s not through to the metall if you didn`t get any bleeding effect from the IronX.

It`s so hard to say what it is just by looking at the pictures. Where on the car is this damage?

I`ve seen similar, although not quite as dark, stains in clear coat from (non-water based) tire dressings that sling up onto the car. Those were on a white car, too.
