Beale Street, Memphis

Wandering around Memphis yesterday happened upon a Corvette/Camaro gathering on closed down Beale Street.

Kinda odd `style` of cars, 99% latest gen Camaros and Vettes and most had some kinda flashing, colored fiber optic lights on `em. Brake rotors, around taillights and side vents...was like automotive Christmas trees.

And these folks had nothing on Mustang drivers; far more than half went blowing on outta there, tires screeching, exhaust bellowing. One lady in C7 pulled outta Beale, hung a left while stomping on it...and came within about 3 feet of wiping out a guy in an electric wheelchair crossing the street.

Heh heh, bet some of my in-laws are in those pics :D Glad you had a good time, Memphis is a lot safer than it used to be.

Now about those idiots who use cars like that to act adolescent... Keeping those stereotypes alive!

The entire afternoon, all over the downtown area, cars were just racing all around. The lady in the Vette hung around the area, just driving like a loon around and around the same 4 block area. Weird.

Eh, whole lotta people old enough to know better still buy such cars for all the wrong reasons.

Maybe I`m just getting (awfully) risk-averse, but !oh man! would I hate to have my life altered by some [individual] like that...I`d probably get paranoid about the whole "racing around" thing pretty fast.

Several years ago Beale Street was a bad,bad place! The city got their act together and on a normal day there is a lot of police presence.
Lots of dollars rolling in.

Nice.

Head down to Graceland & pay homage
We stayed right across the street at the Guesthouse at Graceland. Was in Memphis so wife could be in Hallmark movie Christmas at Graceland. Unfortunately, when call time was announced Friday night all her scenes were being shot in downtown Memphis.

Did have enough time Saturday morning to tour Graceland. To be honest, was never a big Elvis fan but with all the Elvis music playing everywhere, he apparently really did some nice old bluesy tunes now and again. Color me impressed.

Mighta got a bit too caught up in the whole scene though:
