My first paint correction

Coleroad

New member
As the title states, this is my first time doing a paint correction.
Products used:

purple power auto and boat cleaner
mothers clay bar kit
pinnacle advanced compound
optimum hyper polish
lc ccs orange pads. I didn`t like them
hexlogic orange pads
hexlogic white pads
fusso coat
pinnacle souverän wax
303 aerospace protectant
303 convertible top cleaner
303 fabric protectant
I still have to coat the tires yet. What`s on there is still from last summer. For that I`ll be using
soft99`s black black.

in hindsight, I would just used mequier`s mf cutting and finishing pads for this car. I`m sure it would have been quicker and easier with this hard clear.

Coleroad- Noting that I always say how I can`t really tell anything from internet pics :o

Hey, that`s looking good! And FWIW I appreciate that you included the wheelwell pics, now *those* really got my attention :D

Did you let the Souveran set up or buff it off immediately?

i would say I got the paint to 85-90% . It`s a 2013 that we bought two years ago. The paint was pretty swirled when we got it. It`s tons better, but could be better yet. I`ll try improving on it next spring. The one hand polishing wore me out.

IMO that`s a very sensible degree of correction, and a lot better than I`d expect many to do first time out even using two hands.

The important part is improvement and you`re happy with the results. I too think you took a reasonable approach.

I think it looks good.

I`m also envious of your sunshine and weather warm enough to do any detailing!

Not too warm out right now. You can see some snow still in the pictures.

Coleroad- Yeah, it`s petty forgiving stuff. Mike Phillips suggested I try letting it "set up just like other waxes" and sure enough it always buffed off fine and maybe, just *maybe* lasted a bit longer too. I still do WOWO when applying it (or any other regular LSP) trim though.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone on here. The information, and encouragement was very helpful for this project. I could have done it without it, but I know it wouldn`t have been as successful. So again, thank you!

Today I decided to put a second coat of souverän wax on. This time time though I did it like accumulator talked about. I applied it to the entire car first. Then I went back and buffed it off. To my surprise it buffed of even easier, I didn`t think that was even possible. I think from now on I`ll let it haze before buffing. Depending on weather conditions I may or may not be able to wax the entire car before buffing. Thank you accumulator for passing on the information from Mike.

The car looks great!! You can let Souvern stay on for a couple hours and it will still buff off easily. I may have missed this information, did you machine apply the wax. I love applying Souvern by machine. I saw a video Mike posted several years ago. Put a microfiber glove on, dump the wax out of the container and rub a little on the pad then put it back in the container. It so easy to get a nice thin even coat with the machine.

No, I hand applied it, though I did see mike`s video that you referred to. For me it`s much easier to do it by hand.

Photos I probably should have added originally. I didn`t because I didn`t like the quality of them, but decided what the heck. The black stripes looked about as bad as the John deer hood looked before it was polished. The first picture of the paint was before. Not a great picture but if you zoom in you can see lots of swirls. The after pictures you can see a little bit of micro marring still. I still want to go back next year and achieve a higher level of finish yet. Sorry I need to find a way to take better pictures.

These pictures remind me to ask. How do y`all deal with the parking sensors, and not get polish or sealants/wax in them?

I really work at not using excessive amounts of product, and I buff off before it`s dried all the way. When stuff goes get in there, I have a vast assortment of sharpened wooden sticks that I can use, generally soaking them in QD to soften them up a little first. But generally I can get everything cleaned out with just a plush MF, maybe dampened with QD/etc. though it can sure take a long time with many attempts before all that [stuff] is gone.
