Duragloss Enviroshield coating + Squeaky Clean discussion

My understanding is that Squeaky Clean was developed at Richy's suggestion to DG.  It's based on the cleaning power of DG 501 with no sealant.  I believe it has no abrasives and is just a prep for coatings (or for any reason) that removes everything from the paint and leaves nothing behind.   There is a thread on AG where Richy talks about SQ and it's properties.

Tom--only because I happened to read Richy's thread--let me know if you want it and I'll PM the link.

It disappoints me that DG has not put more information on their website regarding this new coating -- what is the initial cure time, what is the total cure time, does ES add any hardness and scratch resistance to the paint, can it be layered, if so how soon, can it be topped, should it be topped (say with AquaWax) to extend the life etc etc.

On another note:  Moved from New England to PA five years ago now and still missing New England!!!!

Besides price, what are the pros and cons of DG ES vs Opti 2?

It seems to me there are two classes of coatings available today--- Opticoat 2.0 that lasts indefinitely and then a group of coatings that last 1-2 years.   So the DG coating would be in that class that lasts 1-2 years, but the price is much more reasonable.  We'll have to wait to see if it is easier to apply, how it looks, slickness and how durable it really is.

I think a claim of one or two years is based on real world expectations of performance, not marketing.  Painted panels expand and contract with heat and cold, that's one of the reasons early clears broke apart and failed.  I suppose you could create a material that stuck firmly to the paint but not so much to itself so it acts like fish scales, providing protection and flexibility at the same time and since the application pad didn't harden that may be what Duragloss is doing, or at least trying to do.  If it can be leveled after the 24 hours, because the excess just wipes off, that would suggest something along those lines.

Don't think that is the case as Dr B said it needs to be wiped very quickly after application.

I'd argue the point that HD polish leaves nothing behind and thus perfect for pre coating polishing. You absolutely have to use the squeaky clean product or something just as effective after using any finishing polish...unless the finishing polish is designed for a specific coating.

Has anyone tried this coating yet?  After living with it for a few weeks, I'm not finding much luv :(  In fact, I'm glad I haven't coated the entire car with it because I'm seeing that environmental fallout and all the crap from the trees is sticking to the paint leaving quite the unsightly mess.  I'm going to have to nickname the car "Spot".

This product is NOT like Cquartz when it comes to hydrophobic properties.

I wish I could find something positive to offer on this one.  Anyone else ???

Guys, I'm sad to report that my DG test vehicle was totalled this past week and this will be my final report on the product.  Here are a few shots I took a couple of days ago.  Car had been washed recently and wasn't too terribly dirty when these shots were taken:

The beading on the hood and roof are OK.  Trunk lid can only be described as lackluster.

Hasn`t anyone else worked with this product? I never see it mentioned. It looks like the price went up!

I applied this coating to another car, my primary daily driver a couple years ago...maybe when I bought it back in 2014. I only did the hood and fenders. Surprising to say, 3 years later and the stuff still looks very similar to when it`s fresh: some lackluster beading is still happening. Fairly uniform across the surfaces. I`m waiting for my $8 Chinese coating to arrive and I`m going to attempt to polish off the old product and try this newcomer (MrFixit 9H). This car is driven a lot, sits outside much of the time. Paint looks great following a wash.

Shaking, do you have a feeling for how long it lasts?

(In each case I`ve applied it, it didn`t appear anything had been put on the paint...it`s very neutral.)

I applied 2 coats within an hour of each other and believe it lasted 8-12 months. This vehicle is owned by a relative and is run through an automatic wash once a week, so that certainly did not help increase longevity.

I will be applying this coating to a vehicle around the first of November that was recently sprayed by Maaco - they wanted the car coated, but wanted something inexpensive - and I believe this coating is great for that purpose.

On or about October 16, 2017 I applied it to the hood of my vehicle (09 Honda Element dark red) and about two weeks before that I applied it to the roof and backend of the same vehicle. I myself like the results so far? Washing is a breeze, and water just flies off of it. Hopefully I can remember to come back and update this post in a few weeks with another update.
