Help me choose an exclusive brand.

Ok so as it says I`m trying to figure out what I want to stick with as an exclusive brand for polishes. Pretty much just polishes. I`ve been using CG V series but honestly i don`t like them for multiple reasons. I am doing this as a business so the faster the better worktime wise. Before I really got into it or decided to even become make a business out of my obsession I was using all Megs polishes and getting amazing results. I absolutely love the work time and just how their polishes work in general because of the simplicity and how a couple of their products (105&205) will do the same amount of work as the entire series that CG carry in half the time. So my question to y`all... what other possible brands should I test? I was honestly thinking of doing a demo run with menzerna or sonax but would I get the same things out of either one as I do with Megs?

I went from Meguiars to Blackfire and I also like Menzerna as well. Blackfire has just a compound and polish which keeps it simple and is great with scratch resistant clears while Menzerna has different levels of compounds and polishes which can be confusing. Something you may wanna look into trying is the 3D/hd line of compound and polish, I`ve heard good bout them and the little I`ve used of em I`ve been fairly happy, but each paint is different and will respond differently so just having one may not always be best either. This is my own opinion as I`ve learned things as I`ve been taking my passion into a business as well.

I`ve never understood the reasoning for making yourself stick to one brand... seems you`re limiting your options quite a bit, for no real reason.

Anyway, the product lines we tend to use most often for correction work are the Griot`s BOSS Line and a variety of Meguiar`s Products (M101, D300, and M205 most often).

I agree!

Case and point:
Last spring I detailed my first black Porsche. I used Menzerna, Polish Angel, Meguiars, 3D, and Carpro liquids with BS, LC, and Megs MF pads. Tested multiple pads and liquids to get the best finish with the least aggressive approach.

If I would have stuck to one product line I would have been really hurting myself.

Different materials and paints respond different with any given product and procedure. I have found there really is no end all set combo for every job.

I think everyone would agree that the goal is the best finish possible while preserving the most CC, or achieving the best result with the least aggressive approach.

Agreed with those above that if you stick with an exclusive brand you could be limiting your results on different paint types.
That being said my vote is the new BOSS line - Perfecting Cream, Correcting Cream, Fast Correcting Cream, and Finishing Sealant are fantastic and easy to work with, long working times, and zero to minimal dusting on the compounds.
 
Yes I totally agree but I`m talking about my go-to polishes and everyone has their preferred polishes.

There is not a brand that can tell you "our products will work on every problem you come across" detailing is a living hobby/profession and the tools of the trade are like a socket set, a 9mm socket wont work on everything you come across so you must have alternative options.

Now you can certainly select a brand that overall works with most vehicles you come across but variety is still a great thing to have when you come across something that is not working quit right.
 
If I had to stick with one polish it would be Menzerma, no doubt. Their lineup is deep and the results speak for theirselves. I reach for Fg400 to knock out major defect and love 3500 and 3800 to finish out. I just bought 2500 for intermediate jobs, but have not tried it yet. If you buy the whole line there will not be a job you will not be able to accomplish. I have never heard many complaints about Menzerma except the name changes.

How is the work time/how much product I use per section? With the CG line I`ll go through a half bottle on the whole car easily

Definitely not that much will be used unless using 4oz bottles

I`m torn here for you but I`m leaning to Polish Angle, yes expensive but worth it for those VERY high end customers, you want them back and their friends
 
after working with a couple 2oz samples of the new 3d AAT line (compound and polish) I fell quickly in love

the compound will destroy almost anything short of needing wetsanding (and it polishes down to almost nothing at all)

and the finishing polish is (as stated before) essentially the new ADAPT (which is a phenomenal cutting one step)

but I agree with Zach, I don`t see any need to limit myself to one brand per say

I still reach for BF SRC compound and a lot of my Poorboys line polishes frequently

I like having a large selection of choices personally but I get the economics of trying to use one brand and avoiding buying lots of other things

I`d still *not* make "one brand" a set-in-stone restriction but I don`t want to beat you over the head with that...first, I`ll ask:

Do you prefer diminishing-abrasive tech or NONdiminishing-abrasives? I myself *VASTLY* prefer the latter.

I agree. I don`t do this for a living and can certainly understand it makes thing easier. I think I would would have a primary brand then fill in with some specialties.

You may want to look at the McKee`s line. Only a few compounds and polishes. They seem to be very cost effective and most of their products I`ve tried I`ve ended up buying gallons. They could be a primary line for most of your needs I would think. Again I don`t do this for a living just my opinion.

I prefer faster working diminishing polishes like megs

Lol my bad. I use to use megs 105 and 205 and I loved how quickly and easily they work and how much of a mess they don`t make. That`s what I meant

Yeah the d300 is nondiminishing I believe. It works great with their microfiber system.

Back to the Menz line. I use about 3 pea sized drops per panel after the pad is primed. They make many different bottle sizes, even 4 liter for big shops. The CG stuff is water based and a whole different animal. I use my remaining CG polishes on headlights. I would put them Way down the list of good polishes. They are not bad, but there are much better. I do like bouncing between brands but if I was running a big operation and doing high end cars it would be all Menzerma. Meg`s and 3M are great for body shops. Not dissing any brand, all have a place on my shelf.

Meg`s modern polishes are non-diminishing or as they refer to it as SMAT. M105, M100, M101, D300, M205 are a few of them.

If the Meguiar`s stuff is working for you then I see no reason to not stick with them.
