Got a kinder, gentler, machine gun hand. Those lyrics no doubt date me. Keep on rockin` in the free world.

I don`t even know if they (whoever they are) are signatories of the Geneva Convention. We (the US) must be better than our enemies. If we stoop to their level we are no better than the savages they are.
Well, ISIL sure didn`t sign the Geneva Convention!
IMO your point about not stooping to their level is utterly valid and gets far too little serious thought. It is simply impossible for normal people to engage in certain behaviors without being changed by the experience and the abnormal people who can do it without issues shouldn`t be encouraged as they tend to develop a taste for it and otherwise, uhm...cause problems...for the rest of us. It`s all theoretical until somebody hands *you* the [tools of that trade] and *you* start the Enhanced Interrogation work, or until *you* are the subject.
Heh heh...ever meet the kind of person who can waterboard/etc. people and still sleep at night? Just askin`...
Ever discuss this stuff with somebody who`s been waterboarded? Just askin`...
IMO there are things that Humans shouldn`t do to each other. Period. I`m actually a bit of a Situational Ethicist, but there are still a few Moral Absolutes that IMO separate the Evil humans from the rest of us, and "Don`t torture people" is one of those Absolutes.

I`m not for torture but I do believe in an eye for an eye...
I dunno...Eye for an eye...as in, burning ISIL members to death or doing some of their *more* heinous acts? I mean...actually *doing it* to somebody? Heh heh, no thanks, I simply won`t do that stuff, I`m not wired that way.
Hey, the thought occurs- D
idn`t Jesus of Nazareth extol his followers to give up the "eye for an eye" in favor of "do[ing] unto others as you would have them do unto you"? Just checking as a lot of people go by his opinions on various subjects, though OTOH plenty of folks prefer to be Old Testament about certain things.
