microfiber pads

So i ended up destroying my only microfiber cutting pad i had from cg yesterday working on my dads car, the backing separated from the foam. This is the first time really using it and wasn`t to happy with it separating, so i`m now looking for a replacement for 5" backing plate as well as a 6". any suggestions to brands and your experience would be awesome.

If this is wrong place sorry, i could`t find a previous thread or better place.

What polisher are you using?

For the Rupes I love the Megs MF cutting pads. Very durable, cut really well, and can even finish well. Probably the most consistent pad I use.

For the Flex I like the Buff & Shine MF`s. They cut really well, are thicker, nap is a little longer, and durable also.

The Meg`s micro have a thin rubberized inside. Basically, bounce back & are tough, For the price.
Mine look new, I only use them on a rotary, as my heavy cut step. IMO the best. $$$

Buff & shine micro, like these for workhorses if there`s a term ? Thick foam, thick micro(look like CG`s which I haven`t tried).
I use these on DA, rotary, great tough pad. $$

Will be trying the Boss micro, out of stock. $$$$

(for finishing you gotta try Surbuf, not technically a micro, in a class by themselves.
Went without them once, the shine was not as deep. High quality.$$ :))

How often where you changing pads? How often were you cleaning the pad on the fly? Trying to do a whole car with one pad will cause heat build up and destroy the pads.

may have been part of the issue that i considered but because i only had one pad i did the car in two days just because i could and also did a panel or two then i`ld polish then come back to buffing after cleaning then polish and so forth, and it didnt seem to get real hot

What speed settings are you using with the meguiars mf system?
thanks

It has been 10 years since I used a wool pad on my rotary. I always preferred foam. I have two Griot`s Garage MF pads on order. Intended to use the MF with my Rupes. I was wondering how well MF finishes on a rotary? probably finished in between wool and foam cutting pad?

Live been told that MF on a rotary isn`t a good idea. Tends to get too hot. I`ve tried it once or twice and found it uncontrollable. Very grabby and skipped a lot. And after a mere few seconds, the MF pad was steaming/smoking as I pulled away from the paint.

You sufficiently scared me enough not to try. I need to get a wool pad for my Dewalt anyways. Thanks for the info

That was on my Flex 3403. Speeds don`t go real low on that machine, but it was on one of the lowest settings. One might have better luck at the 600rpm area, but still. I recall Stokdgs and a couple other rotary vets chiming in and basically just saying that rotary is just the wrong machine for MF.
